		<section id="H02C47FB7A3674295A402F83D33ABB9E" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the
			 <quote><short-title>Healthy Schools Act of 2007</short-title></quote>.</text>
		</section><section id="HB3163E283F14407E94DB82CF08BAC53B"><enum>2.</enum><header>Staph infections
			 in elementary and secondary schools</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Part B of title III of the Public Health
			 Service Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/243">42 U.S.C. 243 et seq.</external-xref>) is amended by inserting after section 317S
			 the following:</text>
			<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H4ED05C5DB99D49ECBF669064E52527D6" style="OLC">
				<section id="H92902BC4386C46CEABFFE47D0058C287"><enum>317T.</enum><header>Staph
				infections in elementary and secondary schools</header>
					<subsection id="H013089822A2A440D90C15F04D772A9C3"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In
				general</header><text>The Secretary, acting through the Director of the Centers
				for Disease Control and Prevention, shall expand and intensify programs to
				reduce the incidence of staph infections in elementary schools and secondary
				schools.</text>
					</subsection><subsection id="HF3F52F13818044539D19C8FBE007656"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Surveillance
				activities</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In carrying out
				subsection (a), the Secretary shall conduct surveillance activities to collect
				data on staph infections in elementary schools and secondary schools.</text>
					</subsection><subsection id="H6A9BA0EAADB04A1683D423008D008FD2"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Best practices
				guidelines</header>
						<paragraph id="H5AE45AE4E5F8421C87A1AC4611F99B6E"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Development;
				publication; dissemination</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In
				carrying out subsection (a), the Secretary shall—</text>
							<subparagraph id="HE786EED823CC4CD4942000C03E031D37"><enum>(A)</enum><text>develop not later
				than 6 months after the date of the enactment of the Healthy Schools Act of
				2007, and periodically update thereafter, best practices guidelines for
				reducing the incidence of staph infections in elementary schools and secondary
				schools; and</text>
							</subparagraph><subparagraph id="H7D71B399CE4A4ED2BD6651CC60BF6D1E"><enum>(B)</enum><text>publish and, as
				appropriate, disseminate such guidelines.</text>
							</subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="HAFBF322C32454C3597063D009B5EED83"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Grants</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In carrying out subsection (a), the
				Secretary may make grants to elementary schools and secondary schools to
				improve awareness of, and to implement, the guidelines developed under
				paragraph (1).</text>
						</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H530767A955C241118916A4B84EE4553E"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Definition</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In this section:</text>
						<paragraph id="HF595B474ECDE4E448B44BC051D591898"><enum>(1)</enum><text>The terms
				<quote>elementary school</quote> and <quote>secondary school</quote> have the
				meanings given to those terms in section 9101 of the Elementary and Secondary
				Education Act of 1965.</text>
						</paragraph><paragraph id="H74E6BF2ABC134703BE7624997F4C2943"><enum>(2)</enum><text>The term
				<term>staph infection</term> means an infection with Staphylococcus
				aureus.</text>
						</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HAB4C6C803F78481A93FEE84D7D048CD1"><enum>(e)</enum><header>Reservation</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Of the amounts appropriated to the Centers
				for Disease Control and Prevention for a fiscal year, the Secretary shall
				reserve an appropriate amount to carry out this
				section.</text>
