		<official-title>To provide for educational partnerships between science
		  museums and National Laboratories.</official-title>

		<section id="HCCAEA81D625C40EFB139D22C90E4E7E" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the
			 <quote><short-title>Science Museum and National Laboratory
			 Partnership Demonstration Act</short-title></quote>.</text>
		</section><section id="H6630E0C33F2F42FC8D5986D57267E0B2" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Science education
			 partnerships</header>
			<subsection id="H8947C83F43DC49419490CFA583E6C5CF"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Authority</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary of Energy is authorized to
			 award on a competitive basis up to 5 grants to partnerships for the purposes
			 of—</text>
				<paragraph id="H2E966CC78ED0481BA28E4E69CAC23BC"><enum>(1)</enum><text>increasing public
			 understanding of the scientific work occurring at the National
			 Laboratories;</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="HE9AD87A3DF72487EA0E1F5F01345F09"><enum>(2)</enum><text>developing exhibits
			 and informal education programs featuring advances in physical sciences;
			 and</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="H042F78ECB1BF4DE1AC3B9740DA0071E9"><enum>(3)</enum><text>increasing public
			 understanding of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics
			 disciplines.</text>
				</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H2F91408677F242BFACE2D400062EE71"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Qualifications</header><text>Grants
			 shall be awarded under this section only to partnerships that include science
			 museums, or consortia thereof—</text>
				<paragraph id="HD25696DEBA974454AF25CDD5E54DC781"><enum>(1)</enum><text>serving no fewer
			 than 1,000,000 visitors annually; and</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="HBB97B0F4F21744F18E547FA3945DAC8D"><enum>(2)</enum><text>with an existing
			 partnership with one or more National Laboratories.</text>
				</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H1294CFFCBB274E01B9FDE5633CE2B222"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Grant
			 allocation</header><text>Science museums or consortia thereof may not receive
			 more than 60 percent of a grant award for any fiscal year, with the remaining
			 funds allocated to National Laboratory partners.</text>
			</subsection><subsection id="H54873686366F4F828FC3B3828B7678E8"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Definitions</header><text>In
			 this Act—</text>
				<paragraph id="H447A20744B2E4E148E84B7CC93E5FCF"><enum>(1)</enum><text>the term
			 <quote>National Laboratory</quote> has the meaning given that term in section 2
			 of the Energy Policy Act of 2005 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/15801">42 U.S.C. 15801</external-xref>);</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="H219FEC1DDE8347EB855D1963E954EC56"><enum>(2)</enum><text>the term
			 <quote>partnership</quote> means as an agreement among a science museum (or
			 consortia thereof) and one or more Department of Energy National Laboratories;
			 and</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="H947472CB7B204907A0B1E2CBAB8EDFB5"><enum>(3)</enum><text>the term
			 <quote>science museum</quote> means an accredited nonprofit museum with a
			 mission to educate and inspire the public about science, scientific
			 advancement, and careers in science.</text>
				</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H9A2972CB6D5749A8BDBF72ECF813DF00"><enum>(e)</enum><header>Authorization of
			 appropriations</header><text>There are authorized to be appropriated to the
			 Secretary of Energy for carrying out this Act $20,000,000 for each of the
			 fiscal years 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011.</text>
