<official-title>To amend title 38, United States Code, to increase burial benefits for veterans, and for other purposes.</official-title>

<section section-type="section-one" id="H85B68BF1A42548D4006C002E18005200" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Veterans Burial Benefits Improvement Act of 2007</short-title></quote>.</text></section> 
<section id="HB09847CB680442AD93A4C244CC9D4877"><enum>2.</enum><header>Increase in burial benefits for veterans</header> 
<subsection id="H537A162D97F1410DB31F24D4D2954547"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Burial and funeral expenses</header> 
<paragraph display-inline="yes-display-inline" id="H7EEA7FBB97614A6800583924F300FE6"><enum>(1)</enum><text><external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/38/2302">Section 2302(a)</external-xref> of title 38, United States Code, is amended by striking <quote>$300</quote> and inserting <quote>$1,270 (as increased from time to time under section 5312(a) of this title)</quote>.</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph indent="up1" id="H80FF1DF07D8A45F2AD9348999FEB498E"><enum>(2)</enum><text>Section 2303(a)(1)(A) of such title is amended by striking <quote>$300</quote> and inserting <quote>$1,270 (as increased from time to time under section 5312(a) of this title)</quote>.</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph indent="up1" id="H1DD8E67C5FC642E5A23C00D1E54CD45D"><enum>(3)</enum><text>Section 2307 of such title is amended by striking <quote>$2,000,</quote> and inserting <quote>$4,100 (as increased from time to time under section 5312(a) of this title),</quote>.</text></paragraph></subsection> 
<subsection id="HFAC9CD9D62234349ACB2ECB7A47752D3"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Plot allowance</header><text>Section 2303(b) of such title is amended—</text> 
<paragraph id="HBD1855B77E784A5CB523013DCA001DC2"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in paragraph (1), by striking <quote>$300</quote> and inserting <quote>$745 (as increased from time to time under section 5312(a) of this title)</quote>; and</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="HF7FB8B77D6CC4A7CA063463FA7E5FFFE"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in paragraph (2), by striking <quote>$300</quote> the second place it appears and inserting <quote>$745 (as increased from time to time under section 5312(a) of this title)</quote>.</text></paragraph></subsection> 
<subsection id="HFD000BCD3D054DDAA70028E6102E184B"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Annual adjustment</header><text>Section 5312(a) of such title is amended by striking <quote>and each rate of monthly allowance paid under section 1805 of this title,</quote> and inserting <quote>each rate of monthly allowance paid under section 1805 of this title, each rate of burial and funeral expenses provided for under sections 2302(a), 2303(a)(1)(A), and 2307 of this title, and each rate of plot allowance provided for under section 2303(b) of this title,</quote>.</text></subsection> 
<subsection id="H235A6A162C3A4DB598FF8CB91E7D2C15"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Effective date</header> 
<paragraph display-inline="yes-display-inline" id="H395E9F65F2BD447C82279191153FBDE1"><enum>(1)</enum><text>Except as provided in paragraph (2), the amendments made by this section shall apply to deaths occurring on or after the date of the enactment of this Act.</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph indent="up1" id="H155587922AFC4E0A92C755EAB7AC53ED"><enum>(2)</enum><text>No adjustments shall be made under <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/38/5312">section 5312(a)</external-xref> of title 38, United States Code, as amended by subsection (c), for fiscal year 2008 for rates of burial and funeral expenses provided for under sections 2302(a), 2303(a)(1)(A), and 2307 of title 38, United States Code, and each rate of plot allowance provided for under section 2303(b) of such title.</text></paragraph></subsection></section>
