		<section id="H3A1029F10CA342B500D6AB8C1E2BFF22" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Limitation on length of
			 deployments for Operation Iraqi Freedom</header>
			<subsection id="H52257063F9CE4EE38CB6C31E1DBA798B"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Limitation</header><text>Commencing
			 120 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the deployment of a unit
			 or individual of the Armed Forces for Operation Iraqi Freedom shall be limited
			 as follows:</text>
				<paragraph id="H141F1890D53B4A109ECCC9FC92A18BF"><enum>(1)</enum><text>In
			 the case of a unit or individual of the Army (including a unit or individual of
			 the Army National Guard or the Army Reserve), the unit or individual may not be
			 deployed, or continued or extended on deployment, for more than 12 consecutive
			 months.</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="HBD8391FDA50949F9AA1F2BEDE0B82662"><enum>(2)</enum><text>In the case of a
			 unit or individual of the Marine Corps (including a unit or individual of the
			 Marine Corps Reserve), the unit or individual may not be deployed, or continued
			 or extended on deployment, for more than 7 consecutive months.</text>
				</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H28232EB5C961420EB649D800C4285676"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Exception</header><text>The
			 limitation in subsection (a) shall not apply to designated key command
			 headquarters personnel or other members of the Armed Forces who are required to
			 maintain continuity of mission and situational awareness between rotating
			 forces.</text>
			</subsection><subsection id="H2438CED315C84940A70949E2273CA875"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Waiver
			 authority</header><text>The President may waive the applicability of the
			 limitation in subsection (a) in the event of a requirement for the use of
			 military force in time of national emergency following consultation with the
			 congressional defense committees.</text>
			</subsection><subsection id="H1A8718E39A904067AC81C45F7C72763E"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Deployment
			 defined</header><text>In this section, the term <term>deployment</term> has the
			 meaning given that term in sub<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/10/991">section 991(b)</external-xref> of title 10, United States
			 Code.</text>
