		<official-title>To amend the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act and the
		  Consumer Product Safety Act to increase the safety of food, toothpaste, and
		  toys.</official-title>

		<section display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H776B4E3EAC0248DEB093CBCB00C7D420" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the
			 <quote><short-title>Import Safety Act of
			 2007</short-title></quote>.</text>
		</section><section id="H43007D2245734A94AF996155BBBCAE6" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Food safety</header>
			<subsection id="H69D9C8DD220E4862AFFC1212F2D1F52"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Increased civil
			 penalties</header><text>Section 303 of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act
			 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/21/333">21 U.S.C. 333</external-xref>) is amended—</text>
				<paragraph id="HDE167BE332E34B4291953F59C9E12471"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by redesignating
			 subsection (g) as subsection (f); and</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="H6C5E0B54E71D490FA16691CDE43C38E6"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in paragraph
			 (2)(A) of such subsection (f), as so redesignated—</text>
					<subparagraph id="H3F71A697C025435CADEEDA1897D1409F"><enum>(A)</enum><text>by striking
			 <quote>$50,000</quote> and inserting <quote>$5,000,000</quote>;</text>
					</subparagraph><subparagraph id="HA561B39E5E574D43876BC98E588EA300"><enum>(B)</enum><text>by striking
			 <quote>$250,000</quote> and inserting <quote>$25,000,000</quote>; and</text>
					</subparagraph><subparagraph id="HE615CD0DEC704BAE877B6741A6800BB"><enum>(C)</enum><text>by striking
			 <quote>$500,000</quote> and inserting <quote>$50,000,000</quote>.</text>
					</subparagraph></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H28768B24D1B1459BAFBAFF1FBA94AF31"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Additional
			 funding for inspecting imported processed food</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">There is authorized to be appropriated to
			 the Commissioner of Food and Drugs $20,000,000 for each of fiscal years 2008
			 through 2012 for the purpose of carrying out section 801 of the Federal Food,
			 Drug, and Cosmetic Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/21/381">21 U.S.C. 381</external-xref>) with respect to processed food (as
			 defined in section 201(gg) of such Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/21/321">21 U.S.C. 321(gg)</external-xref>) and toothpaste which
			 is being imported or offered for import into the United States. Such
			 authorization of appropriations is in addition to any other authorization of
			 appropriations available for such purpose.</text>
			</subsection></section><section id="H7C544B13F90D4D9099C91481C5DCAB02"><enum>3.</enum><header>Toy
			 safety</header>
			<subsection id="H983D9DE56A6E461B9BB6034044C45454"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Increased
			 criminal penalties</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section
			 21(a) of the Consumer Product Safety Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/15/2070">15 U.S.C. 2070(a)</external-xref>) is amended by
			 striking <quote>shall be fined</quote> and all that follows and
			 inserting</text>
				<quoted-block display-inline="yes-display-inline" id="H69E5077FCAEC4B6381225124ED00D782" style="traditional">
					<text>shall be
			 fined—</text><paragraph id="HC0CA9A43487A4ECBBB444E96255651AE"><enum>(1)</enum><text>not more than
				$20,000,000, if the offense does not result in death; or</text>
					</paragraph><paragraph id="HFF8E3697E1384FD59000247435355FC4"><enum>(2)</enum><text>not more than
				$50,000,000, if the offense results in death,</text>
					</paragraph><quoted-block-continuation-text quoted-block-continuation-text-level="subsection">or
				imprisoned for not more than 1 year, or
				both.</quoted-block-continuation-text><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
			</subsection><subsection id="H2AD2358B44074BF1929DDB1D04F8E291"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Additional
			 funding for inspecting imported toys</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">There is authorized to be appropriated to
			 the Consumer Product Safety Commission, $20,000,000 for each of fiscal years
			 2008 through 2012 for the purpose of carrying out sections 16 and 17 of the
			 Consumer Product Safety Act (15 U.S.C. 2065 and 2066) with respect to toys
			 which are being imported or offered for import into the United States. Such
			 authorization of appropriations is in addition to any other authorization of
			 appropriations available for such purpose.</text>
