<section id="H9EEF88C02D244292854243FF5C6B3E4D" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>English Language Instruction Improvement Act of 2007</short-title></quote>.</text></section> 
<section id="H512C50E7CC5C418AA98DC0F955585E15" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Improving educational practices for limited English proficient students and immigrant students</header> 
<subsection id="HCAFDA73279004ACBB066B7C1CD055B1F"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Reserved funding</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 3111(c)(1)(C) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/20/6821">20 U.S.C. 6821(c)(1)(C)</external-xref>) is amended by striking <quote>6.5</quote> and inserting <quote>9.0</quote>.</text></subsection> 
<subsection id="H8DDB0BDC0A374BE69E0078C5FFDD40A5"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Expanded national activities</header><text>Section 3131 of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/20/6861">20 U.S.C. 6861</external-xref>) is amended—</text> 
<paragraph id="HE3D63D8ECD9740E796F26D08C263016C"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by striking <quote>(in consortia with State educational agencies or local educational agencies)</quote> after <quote>institutions of higher learning</quote> and inserting <quote>, State educational agencies, local educational agencies, and consortia of local educational agencies</quote>;</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H3C1CDD1DCD0A473E93FFC1E3187961D3"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by striking <quote>and</quote> at the end of paragraph (2);</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="HA61AFF3BABF3407C814B6840CA276141"><enum>(3)</enum><text>by striking the period at the end of paragraph (3) and inserting a semicolon; and</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H6B3F1004ED4649F3B8B4C2EC659FED93"><enum>(4)</enum><text>by inserting after paragraph (3) the following:</text> 
<quoted-block id="HFFDAC52743684EFC95EBD7CAEE9F4B96" style="OLC"> 
<paragraph id="H532D82A101334CCF9798A3BB7C1D58AF"><enum>(4)</enum><text>for the development and dissemination of best practices in the teaching of individuals with limited English proficiency to high levels of academic achievement with respect to challenging State content and student academic achievement standards;</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H23B33256B56C4CFAABFE8B38AE277C91"><enum>(5)</enum><text>for the development and dissemination of best practices in the teaching of individuals with limited English proficiency to high levels of academic proficiency in more than one language;</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H8AEA0BCA261E4C56A3140475EDAFB4D4"><enum>(6)</enum><text>for the conduct of research and evaluation of educational services provided to individuals with limited English proficiency under this part; and</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H8128E59481F641BBA380C6635BEC9B70"><enum>(7)</enum><text>for technical assistance to assist State education agencies and local education agencies in meeting the requirements of this title.</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></subsection></section>
