		<official-title>To amend the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and
		  Bill of Rights Act of 2000 to require protection and advocacy systems to give
		  notice to, and obtain the authorization of, an individual (or the individual’s
		  legal representative) before pursuing remedies on behalf of the
		  individual.</official-title>

		<section id="HCA2E7AC6BAEB49E28500C1C136F849C" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Notice by protection and
			 advocacy systems</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Subsection
			 (a) of section 143 of the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of
			 Rights Act of 2000 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/15043">42 U.S.C. 15043</external-xref>) is amended—</text>
			<paragraph id="H8385BEF4C019436DB036BAD700C3B847"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in clause (i) of
			 paragraph (2)(A), by inserting <quote>subject to paragraph (5),</quote> before
			 <quote>pursue legal, administrative, and other appropriate remedies or
			 approaches</quote>;</text>
			</paragraph><paragraph id="H88665387387D4EAC00EAE1766C0E578"><enum>(2)</enum><text>at
			 the end of paragraph (3), by striking <quote>and</quote>;</text>
			</paragraph><paragraph id="HE2D0DACC857C442DB0FA4FDCDEA85793"><enum>(3)</enum><text>at the end of
			 paragraph (4), by striking the period and inserting <quote>; and</quote>;
			 and</text>
			</paragraph><paragraph id="H6792BB9D51B24342A840D29C9E541BE4"><enum>(4)</enum><text>by adding at the
			 end the following:</text>
				<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H54D58898287840F5A0EA72DFD42E6BF" style="OLC">
					<paragraph id="H64C48E06936E42AF8BABC8A0F8CBD6E"><enum>(5)</enum><text>before pursuing any
				legal, administrative, or other remedy on behalf of an individual under
				paragraph (2)(A)(i), the system shall give notice to, and obtain the
				authorization of, the individual or the legal guardian, conservator, or other
				legal representative of the
				individual.</text>
