		<official-title>To authorize the President to posthumously award a gold
		  medal on behalf of the Congress to the seven members of the crew of the space
		  shuttle Columbia in recognition of their outstanding and enduring contributions
		  to the Nation.</official-title>

		<section display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HFC6B232F54E44EAD87ED9B44C0CF2C39" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Findings</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">The Congress makes the following
			 findings:</text>
			<paragraph id="HD3BAC628B2764ECA8B9BC3E38B329FA9"><enum>(1)</enum><text>On Saturday,
			 February 1, 2003, the space shuttle Columbia exploded upon re-entering the
			 atmosphere following a 16-day mission.</text>
			</paragraph><paragraph id="HB0EB2382B38E4629A73B76E59C19934E"><enum>(2)</enum><text>Before the
			 Columbia started its tragic descent, the shuttle crew completed some 80
			 scientific experiments and much of their research data had already been relayed
			 to Houston where it has added to the pool of scientific knowledge.</text>
			</paragraph><paragraph id="H044DC8216B3441D096E82E3EC11D7BC1"><enum>(3)</enum><text>The Nation pays
			 tribute to the memory of Colonel Rick Husband, Lieutenant Colonel Michael
			 Anderson, Commander Laurel Clark, Captain David Brown, Commander William
			 McCool, Dr. Kapana Chawla, and Ilan Ramon, a colonel in the Israeli air force.
			 The diversity of crew represented the ideals of our Nation.</text>
			</paragraph><paragraph id="HE98DD8EDAC9540CF91BF6C8DD0FA9F03"><enum>(4)</enum><text>These seven
			 courageous explorers paid the ultimate price to improve our understanding of
			 the universe, to advance our medical and engineering sciences, to make the
			 Nation safer and more secure, and to keep the United States economy on the
			 cutting edge of technology.</text>
			</paragraph></section><section id="H9753A59C27CA4C36B85421155123EDAE"><enum>2.</enum><header>Congressional
			 gold medal</header>
			<subsection id="HBF5F164E64444E91A5D59089C00D96"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Presentation
			 authorized</header><text>The President is authorized, on behalf of the
			 Congress, to award a gold medal of appropriate design to each of the seven crew
			 members of the space shuttle Columbia—</text>

			 Husband;</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="H330B31F20143427E96BD2BB13CFDD337"><enum>(2)</enum><text>Michael P.
			 Anderson;</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="H49914A2A717642FCAEDEF0C1E63114FD"><enum>(3)</enum><text>Laurel
			 Clark;</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="HF2DC9EF839394326B536515708BB52AF"><enum>(4)</enum><text>David M.
			 Brown;</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="H14840B5012DC4C229FC3589866AF3276"><enum>(5)</enum><text>William C.
			 McCool;</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="HC4B6C41052304F90BEE9109228F2249"><enum>(6)</enum><text>Kapana Chawla;
			 and</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="H36E3636CA17B496D8EE19210F86D7C6B"><enum>(7)</enum><text>Ilan Ramon.</text>
				</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H3E313B3803554EBABA07A1001B946B46"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Design and
			 striking</header><text>For the purpose of the presentation referred to in
			 subsection (a), the Secretary of the Treasury shall strike a gold medal with
			 suitable emblems, devices, and inscriptions, to be determined by the
			 Secretary.</text>
			</subsection></section><section id="HB8EEF9A2493A4AEDA4D500A7A8D4E22F"><enum>3.</enum><header>Duplicate
			 medals</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">The Secretary may
			 strike and sell duplicates in bronze of the gold medal struck pursuant to
			 section 2 under such regulations as the Secretary may prescribe, and at a price
			 sufficient to cover the cost thereof, including labor, materials, dies, use of
			 machinery, and overhead expenses, and the cost of the gold medal.</text>
		</section><section id="H2ACDC396D1804AD28F45ED2B1538545D"><enum>4.</enum><header>National
			 medals</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">The medals struck under
			 this Act are national medals for purposes of <external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/31/51">chapter 51</external-xref> of title 31, United
			 States Code.</text>
		</section><section id="H03318838EC39425194DFEB53B7E16670"><enum>5.</enum><header>Funding</header>
			<subsection id="HC57A0429D23B4BD189365781D5236F72"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Authority to use
			 fund amounts</header><text>There is authorized to be charged against the United
			 States Mint Public Enterprise Fund an amount not to exceed $30,000 to pay for
			 the cost of the medals authorized by this Act.</text>
			</subsection><subsection id="HE8D1B15C1E0C430CBF9C446C4700C1EF"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Proceeds of
			 sale</header><text>Amounts received from the sale of duplicate bronze medals
			 under section 3 shall be deposited in the United States Mint Public Enterprise
			 Fund.</text>
