<section section-type="section-one" id="HFF9837024D7546058DE4C6A0F54C67C4" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>1.</enum><header>Reimbursement of State and local governments for productivity losses incurred due to deployment of employees who are reserve component members</header>
<subsection id="H07176D53F8AF4D6680F5CB95BA1B8400" indent="up1"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Reimbursement available</header><text><external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/37/17">Chapter 17</external-xref> of title 37, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following new section:</text>

<section section-type="subsequent-section" id="HB18A5022964645CBBDEEEE85625802D1"><enum>911.</enum><header>Reimbursement of State and local governments for productivity losses incurred due to deployment of certain employees who are reserve component members</header>
<subsection id="HEA50A4EAE334410CAC7990E2F4CF84A5" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Reimbursement required</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">At the request of a State or local government that has one or more covered employees who are also members of a reserve component and absent from their position of employment with the State or local government under a call or order to serve on active duty for a period of more than 30 days, and subject to the availability of appropriations for such purpose, the Secretary concerned shall reimburse the State or local government for financial losses incurred by the State or local government as a result of the absence of the covered employees in an amount equal to the amount of civilian compensation actually paid by the State or local government to the covered employees during their absence.</text> </subsection>
<subsection id="HA537E7675E9B4670A9106BD18FE38B00"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Covered employees</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Subsection (a) applies with respect to an employee of a State or local government who is an emergency response provider, as that term is defined under section 2(6) of the Homeland Security Act of 2002 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/6/101">6 U.S.C. 101(6)</external-xref>).</text></subsection>
<subsection id="H6F79C14984554989A0823C1885635675"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Regulations</header><text>The Secretary of Defense shall prescribe such regulations as may be necessary to carry out this section.</text></subsection>
<subsection id="HB05C1B5FF6A34E04B21676C9EDA8207D"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Definitions</header><text>In this section:</text>
<paragraph id="HE3179921280D48ABB48FF8A8D3285EF4"><enum>(1)</enum><text>The term <term>civilian compensation</term> means the wages or salary that an employee of a State or local government normally receives from the employee’s employment by the State or local government.</text></paragraph>
<paragraph id="HB9093D809E8F4200AB3B65DC26627B56"><enum>(2)</enum><text>The term <term>local government</term> means an agency or political subdivision of a State.</text></paragraph>
<paragraph id="H71BE1E95630D4B0095E4FD11CBB0245"><enum>(3)</enum><text>The term <term>State</term> means each of the several States of the United States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, the Virgin Islands, and other territories or possessions of the United States.</text></paragraph></subsection></section><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subsection>
<subsection id="HE05993388FE64C07B0433E02E0ED8D00" indent="up1"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Clerical amendment</header><text>The table of sections at the beginning of such chapter is amended by inserting after the item relating to section 909 the following new item:</text>
