		  and desirability of equipping turbojet aircraft in the Civil Reserve Air Fleet

		<section id="H37146BDC3E4F41ADA8483578E8298EDC" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the
			 <quote><short-title>Civil Reserve Air Fleet Missile
			 Defense Pilot Program Act of 2007</short-title></quote>.</text>
		</section><section id="HAA95847323974995008B1756AA7623E"><enum>2.</enum><header>Civil Reserve Air
			 Fleet</header>
			<subsection id="HE156A32B642A4145AB2C682D99750605"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Inclusion of
			 missile defense systems</header><text><external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/10/931">Chapter 931</external-xref> of title 10, United States
			 Code, is amended by adding at the end the following new section:</text>
				<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H42FC1EA0E6F8465297F0FEC8897537D1" style="USC">
					<section id="HD4882BC1B0FA47C6A400895075CB81EB"><enum>9515.</enum><header>Missile
				defense systems</header>
						<subsection id="H54226C8F01EE4A40B269DEC41E09658F"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Pilot
				program</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary of
				Defense shall carry out a pilot program to determine the feasibility and
				desirability of equipping turbojet aircraft in the Civil Reserve Air Fleet with
				a shoulder-fired missile defense system.</text>
						</subsection><subsection id="HCE41DAEF4742400982BEBEC700CEBAF9"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Certification of
				missile defense system</header><text>The Secretary of Defense shall certify,
				based on operational tests and evaluations, including prior use on aircraft
				operated by the armed forces, an appropriate missile defense system for
				inclusion on turbojet aircraft under the pilot program.</text>
						</subsection><subsection id="HD77CC35F82EA4294982899DDEE007D50"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Minimum number
				of aircraft</header><text>In conducting the pilot program, the Secretary of
				Defense shall provide for the inclusion of a missile defense system on not
				fewer than 20 turbojet aircraft in the Civil Reserve Air Fleet.</text>
						</subsection><subsection display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H74E2132CEA164E1493044D00E0BCFDAD"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Contracts</header><text>The
				Secretary of Defense may enter into contracts to carry out the pilot program in
				the same manner as the Secretary may enter into contracts under section
				9512.</text>
						</subsection><subsection id="HAEC48CFFBB044375A888433F03429C1F"><enum>(e)</enum><header>Reports</header><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="yes-display-inline" id="H1DEF97D30C4E4915BFC763AAA2E3B61C"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Not later than 60 days after the date of
				enactment of this section, the Secretary shall submit to the Committee on Armed
				Services and the Committee on Appropriations of the Senate and Committee on
				Armed Services and the Committee on Appropriations of the House of
				Representatives a report containing a description of the pilot program. The
				report shall include, at a minimum—</text>
								<subparagraph id="H2A57CD6788E8485CA204AE69C396C7D8" indent="up1"><enum>(A)</enum><text>a description of how funds will be
				allocated under the program;</text>
								</subparagraph><subparagraph id="HBCA75639105340248B93348E6267987B" indent="up1"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">a
				schedule for implementation of the program;</text>
								</subparagraph><subparagraph id="H89818E079A084B658E9B0600FD9EF4D6" indent="up1"><enum>(C)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">a
				description of testing requirements for missile defense systems under the
				program;</text>
								</subparagraph><subparagraph id="HF989FB7CB49841D8A07212E361A9FDA" indent="up1"><enum>(D)</enum><text>a statement as to whether aircraft or
				appliances used in carrying out the program will require certification by the
				Administrator of the Federal Aviation Administration; and</text>
								</subparagraph><subparagraph id="H39345412AEB444D8B2EA5C478E633F6" indent="up1"><enum>(E)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">a
				description of the criteria that will be used in selecting the aircraft that
				will be equipped with missile defense systems under the program.</text>
								</subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="H3E8C4FBBBDCA43E8B02566AA281F07F" indent="up1"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Before the last day of the pilot program,
				the Secretary shall submit to the Committee on Armed Services and the Committee
				on Appropriations of the Senate and Committee on Armed Services and the
				Committee on Appropriations of the House of Representatives a report on the
				results of the pilot program.</text>
							</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HE5EB7C1EE8C54DECA61EBA6C528D6564"><enum>(f)</enum><header>Duration of
				pilot program</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary
				shall conduct the pilot program during a two-year period beginning not later
				than 30 days after submission of the report under subsection (e)(1).</text>
						</subsection><subsection id="H1D35B8639221465E92B4A026B2A5E170"><enum>(g)</enum><header>Authorization of
				appropriations</header><text>There is authorized to be appropriated to carry
				out this section $75,000,000 for fiscal year
				2008.</text>
						</subsection></section><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
			</subsection><subsection id="HF7087F2C86D54848898B6D63492243F7"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Conforming
			 amendment</header><text>The table of sections at the beginning of such chapter
			 is amended by adding at the end the following new item:</text>
