<official-title>To amend title XVIII of the Social Security Act to extend the annual enrollment periods of the Medicare prescription drug benefit program and under the Medicare Advantage program.</official-title>

<section id="H1E7687837E06424D9D0002B63E4FAE26" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Medicare Prescription Drug Enrollment Extension Act of 2007</short-title></quote>. </text></section> 
<section id="H0E5C543E306D427DB7DBDE221517003E"><enum>2.</enum><header>Extension of annual enrollment periods for the medicare prescription drug benefit program and medicare advantage program</header> 
<subsection id="H24C692691A764801A40575C800D5E79D"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 1851(e)(3)(B) of the Social Security Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/1395w-21">42 U.S.C. 1395w–21(e)(3)(B)</external-xref>) is amended—</text> 
<paragraph id="H6FEADD64B0F84BBCA7FBA6C7123DDCB2"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by striking <quote>and</quote> at the end of clause (iii); and</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H461FD16EA19545EA00A7F520F309AB5"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by striking clause (iv) and inserting the following:</text> 
<quoted-block style="OLC" id="H960738B784CC45899300C418F6537000" display-inline="no-display-inline"> 
<clause id="HC7CACAC536B54FDB909696A44C713976"><enum>(iv)</enum><text>with respect to 2007, the period beginning on November 15, 2006, and ending on December 31, 2006; and</text></clause> 
<clause id="HED7EA58F46234CD4AC3F5B5639728701"><enum>(v)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">with respect to a succeeding year, the period beginning on November 15 of the year before such year and ending on March 31 of such year.</text></clause><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></subsection> 
<subsection id="H32F97161082544D7ADBBCF9DB4143C6B"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Conforming effectiveness of election</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 1851(f)(3) of such Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/1395w-21">42 U.S.C. 1395w–21(f)(3)</external-xref>) is amended by inserting after <quote>the following year</quote> the following: <quote>, except that in the case of an election made under subsection (e)(3)(B)(v) on or after January 1 of a year, the election shall take effect on the first day of the first month that begins at least 14 days after the date of such election</quote>.</text></subsection></section>
