		<official-title>To amend title XIX of the Social Security Act to require
		  Medicaid coverage of professional services of optometrists that are otherwise
		  covered when furnished by a physician.</official-title>

		<section id="HE9569EB4A0FE438095867687F2EBFF46" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the
			 <quote><short-title>Optometric Equity in Medicaid Act of
			 2007</short-title></quote>.</text>
		</section><section id="HC4D9BFC4D6974CC391D715DE1F9FDB46"><enum>2.</enum><header>Requiring
			 Medicaid coverage of professional services of optometrists that are otherwise
			 covered when furnished by a physician</header>
			<subsection id="H881363CB613B4FD8887F70E72000E49E"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In
			 general</header><text>Section 1905(a)(5) of the Social Security Act (42 U.S.C.
			 1396d(a)(5)) is amended—</text>
				<paragraph id="H14F8B2166F2E42709391CC94A4190022"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by striking
			 <quote>and</quote> before <quote>(B)</quote>; and</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="H2F32386BB98449968EC2E012EE7F308B"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by inserting
			 before the semicolon at the end the following: <quote>, and (C) medical and
			 surgical services furnished by an optometrist (described in section 1861(r)(4))
			 to the extent such services may be performed under State law either by a doctor
			 of medicine or by a doctor of optometry and would be described in clause (A) if
			 furnished by a physician (as defined in section 1861(r)(1))</quote>.</text>
				</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H72105EA811B94907BEC66FCBC47E12F7"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Effective
			 date</header><text>The amendments made by subsection (a) shall take effect on
			 the date of the enactment of this Act.</text>
