		<official-title>To authorize the Secretary of Homeland Security to award
		  competitive grants to units of local government for innovative programs that
		  address expenses incurred in responding to the needs of undocumented
		  immigrants.</official-title>

		<section display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HBC23718C03994F5B911FAAFB92309FAC" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the
			 <quote><short-title>Municipal Illegal Immigration Relief
			 Act of 2007</short-title></quote>.</text>
		</section><section id="HB1245E7C3CB54F53B0C3335002F0DB14"><enum>2.</enum><header>Grants for local
			 programs relating to undocumented immigrants</header>
			<subsection id="H0946219A7BBC4DCEBCDEA5DBED48553C"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Grants
			 authorized</header><text>The Secretary is authorized to award competitive
			 grants to units of local government for innovative programs that address the
			 increased expenses incurred in responding to the needs of undocumented
			 immigrants.</text>
			</subsection><subsection id="H72059423F02E4A4EA519E607272BD970"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Maximum
			 amount</header><text>The Secretary may not award a grant under this section to
			 a unit of local government in an amount which exceeds $5,000,000.</text>
			</subsection><subsection id="HA6802285A5BD41F2A77F66124C025300"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Use of grant
			 funds</header><text>Grants awarded under this section may be used for
			 activities relating to the undocumented immigrant population residing in the
			 locality, including—</text>
				<paragraph id="HA45C714A89AC43188E709163EAAFFFC"><enum>(1)</enum><text>law enforcement
			 activities;</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="H6490084B8C6F438FB5948F4FA6DDC2C5"><enum>(2)</enum><text>uncompensated
			 health care;</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="HE05C43574E23473082004DE01F2CE212"><enum>(3)</enum><text>inmate
			 transportation; and</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="HD053C928D8A64B69B5825132D775E9FC"><enum>(4)</enum><text>reduction in jail
			 overcrowding.</text>
				</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HCA6BAF66DDB5440A809F578E2403BB00"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Application</header><text>Each
			 unit of local government desiring a grant under this section shall submit an
			 application to the Secretary, at such time, in such manner, and accompanied by
			 such information as the Secretary may reasonably require.</text>
			</subsection><subsection id="H31A98EAAED994B1BA727E031A95547DE"><enum>(e)</enum><header>Authorization of
			 appropriations</header><text>There are authorized to be appropriated
			 $100,000,000 for each of the fiscal years 2008 through 2012 to carry out this
			 section.</text>
