<official-title>To amend the Public Health Service Act to provide for the participation of optometrists in the National Health Service Corps scholarship and loan repayment programs, and for other purposes.</official-title>

<section id="H1A085BE2C6C3453180B4F5B188344F47" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>National Health Service Corps Improvement Act of 2007</short-title></quote>.</text></section> 
<section id="H0E0C4DB3BD5E4B439F12F0D2E19CC2D2"><enum>2.</enum><header>Participation of optometrists in National Health Service Corps</header> 
<paragraph id="H08551EDBA759416CB36B87AFF0CFE1B2"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Primary health care services</header><text>Section 331 of the Public Health Service Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/254d">42 U.S.C. 254d</external-xref>) is amended—</text>
<subparagraph id="HBF7567650C86491182A639EC122F98F4"><enum>(A)</enum><text>in subsection (a)(3)(D), by striking <quote>or mental health,</quote> and inserting <quote>optometry, or mental health,</quote>; and</text></subparagraph>
<subparagraph id="H821A34A7ED9944B9A1CDC2C41DEAD6D"><enum>(B)</enum><text>in subsection (b)(2), by striking <quote>and physician assistants</quote> and inserting <quote>optometrists, and physician assistants</quote>. </text></subparagraph></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H971AA6014A764D0EBFB849E3D77383F8"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Scholarship program</header><text>Section 338A of the Public Health Service Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/254l">42 U.S.C. 254l</external-xref>) is amended—</text> 
<subparagraph id="HC386EE6BA4A44B4198C05FFB5256DDF1"><enum>(A)</enum><text>in subsection (a)(1), by striking <quote>and physician assistants</quote> and inserting <quote>optometrists, and physician assistants</quote>; and</text></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="H51715621501C42488F00EA7B00171F09"><enum>(B)</enum><text>in subsection (b)(1), by striking <quote>or other health profession</quote> and inserting <quote>optometry, or other health profession</quote>.</text></subparagraph></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="HF377D9B8DF3D4434A0697C31C63E9E4D"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Loan repayment program</header> 
<subparagraph id="H9FA9576E870E4333A900E4DBEE91FB74"><enum>(A)</enum><header>Participation</header><text>Section 338B of the Public Health Service Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/254l-1">42 U.S.C. 254l–1</external-xref>) is amended—</text> 
<clause id="H5D046CD58F234A1BA24398B058B8FB71"><enum>(i)</enum><text>in subsection (a)(1), by striking <quote>and physician assistants</quote> and inserting <quote>optometrists, and physician assistants</quote>;</text></clause> 
<clause id="HD73F26B224ED43ABB72052603F1DB683"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>in subsection (b)(1)(A), by striking <quote>or another health profession</quote> and inserting <quote>optometry, or another health profession</quote>; and</text> </clause> 
<clause id="H7251D75095B14FF39937CA3B00F1CAA9"><enum>(iii)</enum><text>in subsections (b)(1)(B) and (b)(1)(C)(ii), by striking the term <term>or other health profession</term> each place such term appears and inserting <quote>optometry, or other health profession</quote>.</text></clause></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="H7A12F6F5CF6C4B0DA6CF326FA61BB9ED"><enum>(B)</enum><header>Period of obligated service</header><text>Clauses (ii) and (iii) of section 338C(b)(5)(C) of the Public Health Service Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/254m">42 U.S.C. 254m(b)(5)(C)</external-xref>) are amended by striking the term <term>or other health profession</term> each place such term appears and inserting <quote>optometry, or other health profession</quote>. </text></subparagraph></paragraph></section>
