<section id="HCE1FBA7C9D7E4F4CAE14C9AF2D9C0413" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Librarian Incentive to Boost Recruitment and Retention in Areas of Need Act of 2007</short-title></quote> or the <quote><short-title>LIBRARIAN Act</short-title></quote>.</text> </section> 
<section id="H1350B4FD15E345F0A3391CB59E98C958" section-type="subsequent-section" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>2.</enum><header>Loan cancellation</header> 
<subsection id="HB6F741A605EF4ADF8165DC9CFB87A522"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Amendments</header><text>Section 465(a) of the <act-name parsable-cite="HEA65">Higher Education Act of 1965</act-name> (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/20/1087ee">20 U.S.C. 1087ee(a)</external-xref>) is amended—</text> 
<paragraph id="H0DB8A7E7DD164B65A41B698587462816"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in paragraph (2)—</text> 
<subparagraph id="H8D99EC6292EB478D8DFB19C005068B"><enum>(A)</enum><text>by striking <quote>section 111(c)</quote> in subparagraph (A) and inserting <quote>section 1113(a)(5)</quote>;</text></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="H8C69AA5C764442F195E517AA59C7EC10"><enum>(B)</enum><text>by striking <quote>or</quote> at the end of subparagraph (H);</text></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="H60BA025A3D7B4AF7A57BB811D5B1B083"><enum>(C)</enum><text>by striking the period at the end of subparagraph (I) and inserting <quote>; or</quote>; and</text></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="H91B6E1F62184406F842DD0E21D20A255"><enum>(D)</enum><text>by inserting after subparagraph (I) the following new subparagraph:</text>

<subparagraph indent="up1" id="H5082EF66EE474F7DA315A3E3D0048E86"><enum>(J)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">as a full time librarian, if the librarian has a master's degree in library science and is employed in—</text> 
<clause id="HCA3BB7561F184C209E5539BF092144AB"><enum>(i)</enum><text>an elementary school or secondary school that is eligible for assistance under title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965; or </text></clause> 
<clause id="H127A8E2D06894944BEB3D4C0DD4C91F2"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>a public library that serves a geographic area that contains 1 or more schools eligible for assistance under title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965.</text></clause></subparagraph><after-quoted-block>; and</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subparagraph></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="HC3CD6D3FB81343BE9F5D56D95EDE7783"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">in paragraph (3)(A)(i), by striking out <quote>(H), or (I)</quote> and inserting <quote>(H), (I), or (J)</quote>.</text> </paragraph> </subsection> 
<subsection id="HF7C66DDE48984912921B40E95BD81C06"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The amendments made by <internal-xref idref="HB6F741A605EF4ADF8165DC9CFB87A522" legis-path="463.(a)">subsection (a)</internal-xref> shall apply with respect to any year of service that is completed after the date of enactment of this Act.</text></subsection></section>
