<official-title>To amend title XVIII of the Social Security Act to ensure proportional representation of rural interests on the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission.</official-title>

<section id="HB3053BE5F99440F78CEEAD7D3B8CB8F" section-type="section-one" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>MedPAC Rural Representation Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section> 
<section id="H9BBDB863BEC34D30BFAF670060E8B0F2"><enum>2.</enum><header>Ensuring proportional representation of interests of rural areas on MedPAC</header> 
<subsection id="HFC7CE1FEAF07469C836B7C543B2F3660"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Section 1805(c)(2) of the Social Security Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/1395b-6">42 U.S.C. 1395b–6(c)(2)</external-xref>) is amended—</text> 
<paragraph id="H47EC5084EC3F4267851BF82ED38B66B3"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in subparagraph (A), by inserting <quote>consistent with subparagraph (E)</quote> after <quote>rural representatives</quote>; and</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H95F557D2D856416DBBCD449C41000700"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following new subparagraph:</text> 
<quoted-block style="OLC" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HDAA3C36F7F3945A8B8B5CDE48609D61"> 
<subparagraph id="HAB0E027A856C4A4EA5ED75D2C79AA1D"><enum>(E)</enum><header>Proportional representation of interests of rural areas</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In order to provide a balance between urban and rural representatives under subparagraph (A), the proportion of members of the Commission who represent the interests of health care providers and Medicare beneficiaries located in rural areas shall be no less than the proportion of the total number of Medicare beneficiaries who reside in rural areas.</text></subparagraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></subsection> 
<subsection id="HCB7214DC7A114D569F9D74BF2B4655FC"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text>The amendments made by subsection (a) shall apply to appointments to the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission made after the date of enactment of this Act.</text></subsection></section>
