<section id="H2C0FB93F1CC84F9F97C11100BF384728" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Senate confirmation required of an individual appointed to serve as Director of the American Institute in Taiwan</header>
<subsection id="H0B31D92DFE644808A30080A3E8FFC164"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the President shall appoint, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, an individual to serve as the Director of the American Institute in Taiwan.</text></subsection>
<subsection id="H58E56C3CF79E4DF7B0046696B08E5705"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text>This section shall take effect beginning with the first appointment by the President of an individual to serve as the Director of the American Institute in Taiwan that is made after the date of the enactment of this Act.</text> </subsection></section>
