		<official-title display="yes">To require the Secretary of the Interior,
		  acting through the Bureau of Reclamation and the United States Geological
		  Survey, to conduct a study on groundwater resources in the State of Alaska, and
		  for other purposes.</official-title>

		<section id="HF8B9250D21D546239D7C00EB22E96C8D" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the
			 <quote><short-title>Alaska Water Resources Act of
			 2007</short-title></quote>.</text>
		</section><section id="HCA28E042314C4BF3BE6CAC8B07CC2D6E"><enum>2.</enum><header>Definitions</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">In this Act:</text>
			<paragraph id="H9DAF8E5E04DD4FA187F80090202CAD95"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Secretary</header><text>The
			 term <quote>Secretary</quote> means the Secretary of the Interior.</text>
			</paragraph><paragraph id="H9EFE69AAA4FF41C5BADB9A400BADE76"><enum>(2)</enum><header>State</header><text>The
			 term <quote>State</quote> means the State of Alaska.</text>
			</paragraph></section><section id="H01A043C21533462294036C8F501335BD"><enum>3.</enum><header>Alaska water
			 resources study</header>
			<subsection id="H7BB3E257894248F798D268F580BA683E"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Study</header><text>The
			 Secretary, acting through the Commissioner of Reclamation and the Director of
			 the United States Geological Survey, where appropriate, and in accordance with
			 this Act and other applicable provisions of law, shall conduct a study that
			 includes—</text>
				<paragraph id="H5906BA9CE36F4427B0F228AC70BFD8BD"><enum>(1)</enum><text>a
			 survey of accessible water supplies, including aquifers, on the Kenai Peninsula
			 and in the Municipality of Anchorage, the Matanuska-Susitna Borough, the city
			 of Fairbanks, and the Fairbanks Northstar Borough;</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="HDE5E0F14DDC94D39B27EC9C6E44554E0"><enum>(2)</enum><text>a
			 survey of water treatment needs and technologies, including desalination,
			 applicable to the water resources of the State; and</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="H221BAFBA0A304BF0923FB3DBE1833B5E"><enum>(3)</enum><text>a
			 review of the need for enhancement of the streamflow information collected by
			 the United States Geological Survey in the State relating to critical water
			 needs in areas such as—</text>
					<subparagraph id="H03BC98C52B82484F85A9001E11178EE2"><enum>(A)</enum><text>infrastructure
			 risks to State transportation;</text>
					</subparagraph><subparagraph id="H11DD31B75C6F44C991BF8B77302C971C"><enum>(B)</enum><text>flood
			 forecasting;</text>
					</subparagraph><subparagraph id="H9CA039EB43A4433A803E85208D0278AC"><enum>(C)</enum><text>resource
			 extraction; and</text>
					</subparagraph><subparagraph id="H8E035130E7674B4793D6F6253C73E87"><enum>(D)</enum><text>fire
			 management.</text>
					</subparagraph></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HBE44AB9E67C84192B760385985942E1B"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Report</header><text>Not
			 later than 2 years after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary
			 shall submit to the Committee on Natural Resources of the House of
			 Representatives and the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources of the Senate
			 a report describing the results of the study required by subsection (a).</text>
			</subsection></section><section id="HD55BDAE5B54D411CADE8EA65757BBE3"><enum>4.</enum><header>Sunset</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">The authority of the Secretary to carry out
			 any provisions of this Act shall terminate 10 years after the date of the
			 enactment of this Act.</text>
		</section><section id="HFDF5BA13F0C74170B3D47FEDF157ACE"><enum>5.</enum><header>Authorization of
			 appropriations</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">There are
			 authorized to be appropriated such sums as are necessary to carry out this
			 Act.</text>
