		  fibrosis, supporting the goals and ideals of National Idiopathic Pulmonary
		  Fibrosis Awareness Week, and for other purposes.</official-title>

		<whereas><text>Whereas idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis is a serious lung
			 disorder causing progressive, incurable lung scarring;</text>
		</whereas><whereas><text>Whereas idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis is one of about 200
			 disorders called interstitial lung diseases;</text>
		</whereas><whereas><text>Whereas idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis is the most common
			 form of interstitial lung disease;</text>
		</whereas><whereas><text>Whereas idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis is a debilitating
			 and generally fatal disease marked by progressive scarring of the lungs,
			 causing an irreversible loss of the lung tissue’s ability to transport
			 oxygen;</text>
		</whereas><whereas><text>Whereas idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis progresses quickly,
			 often causing disability or death within a few short years;</text>
		</whereas><whereas><text>Whereas there is no proven cause of idiopathic pulmonary
			 fibrosis;</text>
		</whereas><whereas><text>Whereas more than 128,000 United States citizens have
			 idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, and more than 48,000 new cases are diagnosed
			 each year representing a 156-percent increase in mortality since 2001;</text>
		</whereas><whereas><text>Whereas idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis is often
			 misdiagnosed or under diagnosed;</text>
		</whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the median survival rate for idiopathic pulmonary
			 fibrosis patients is 2 to 3 years; about two-thirds of idiopathic pulmonary
			 fibrosis patients die within 5 years; and approximately 40,000 patients die
			 each year; and</text>
		</whereas><whereas><text>Whereas a need has been identified to increase awareness
			 and detection of this misdiagnosed and under diagnosed disorder as well as all
			 incarnations of pulmonary fibrosis: Now, therefore, be it</text>
		</whereas></preamble>
	<resolution-body id="HCE171120155D4CB985B20546272E5595" style="traditional">
		<section display-inline="yes-display-inline" id="H34B7F6AECAD04893A062CBEA40E3B49F" section-type="undesignated-section"><enum></enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">That the Congress—</text>
			<paragraph id="HADC577C4DF6B4AE98D5643FDF7C8E2F9"><enum>(1)</enum><text>recognizes the
			 need to pursue research into the causes, a treatment, and an eventual cure for
			 idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis;</text>
			</paragraph><paragraph id="H0C32F8FBB7A54423AA9E8511C4454C80"><enum>(2)</enum><text>supports the work
			 of advocates and organizations in educating, supporting, and providing hope for
			 individuals who suffer from idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, including efforts to
			 organize a National Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness Week;</text>
			</paragraph><paragraph id="HCD16D4A799F54A6FAE00EC9EC2B65936"><enum>(3)</enum><text>supports the
			 designation of an appropriate week as National Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis
			 Awareness Week;</text>
			</paragraph><paragraph id="HD2A2A73A82224CFAA8A76E640042D139"><enum>(4)</enum><text>welcomes the
			 issuance of a proclamation designating a National Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis
			 Awareness Week;</text>
			</paragraph><paragraph id="H4D6E14097F5A4D5D86DDC200AD6600A0"><enum>(5)</enum><text>congratulates
			 advocates and organizations for their efforts to educate the public about
			 idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, while funding research to help find a cure for
			 this disorder; and</text>
			</paragraph><paragraph id="H7D1D17CA9A3C43608D4535AF48E20033"><enum>(6)</enum><text>supports the goals
			 and ideals of National Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness Week.</text>
