		<official-title display="yes">Proclaiming the week of May 21 through May
		  27, 2006, as <quote>National Public Works Week</quote>. </official-title>
	</form>
	<preamble>
		<whereas><text>Whereas public works infrastructure, facilities, and
			 services are of vital importance to the health, safety, and well-being of the
			 people of the United States;</text>
		</whereas><whereas><text>Whereas those facilities and services could not be
			 provided without the dedicated efforts of public works professionals,
			 engineers, and administrators who represent State and local governments
			 throughout the United States;</text>
		</whereas><whereas><text>Whereas those individuals design, build, operate, and
			 maintain the transportation systems, water supply infrastructure, sewage and
			 refuse disposal systems, public buildings, and other structures and facilities
			 that are vital to the citizens and communities of the United States; and</text>
		</whereas><whereas><text>Whereas it is in the interest of the public for citizens
			 and civic leaders to understand the role that public infrastructure plays
			 in—</text>
			<paragraph id="idA143A9FC38214534B83A769212E053E5"><enum>(1)</enum><text>protecting the
			 environment;</text>
			</paragraph><paragraph id="id752C957D3FC74FE6B83F711C814CE86D"><enum>(2)</enum><text>improving public
			 health and safety;</text>
			</paragraph><paragraph id="idBC90A40C949B4256A66D56A76268297E"><enum>(3)</enum><text>contributing to
			 economic vitality; and</text>
			</paragraph><paragraph id="idE1742EBD4F7243A1A5D41BE51E6AEC17"><enum>(4)</enum><text>enhancing the
			 quality of life of every community of the United States: Now, therefore, be
			 it</text>
			</paragraph></whereas></preamble>
	<resolution-body>
		<section display-inline="yes-display-inline" id="S1" section-type="undesignated-section"><enum></enum><text>That the Senate—</text>
			<paragraph id="IDda5edd05a2e843828942f401319d80d8"><enum>(1)</enum><text>proclaims the
			 week of May 21 through May 27, 2006, as <quote>National Public Works
			 Week</quote>;</text>
			</paragraph><paragraph id="IDf42a2ea3f66b48d3bf2e32e4a3a252d7"><enum>(2)</enum><text>recognizes and
			 celebrates the important contributions that public works professionals make
			 every day to improve—</text>
				<subparagraph id="id8322FF97A23D437A8E0EB99F9C1F37B7"><enum>(A)</enum><text>the public
			 infrastructure of the United States; and</text>
				</subparagraph><subparagraph id="id1A92A07F80F64720A88C7568D8A18CC3"><enum>(B)</enum><text>the communities
			 that those professionals serve; and</text>
				</subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="IDc1d07bbc664b47a08e53cfd88e84bb78"><enum>(3)</enum><text>urges citizens
			 and communities throughout the United States to join with representatives of
			 the Federal Government and the American Public Works Association in activities
			 and ceremonies that are designed—</text>
				<subparagraph id="id8F1AE4C41526462A8B99EEEEAB8E64F2"><enum>(A)</enum><text>to pay tribute to
			 the public works professionals of the Nation; and</text>
				</subparagraph><subparagraph id="idE14AA4F6736D4F16AC0091A225ADFF71"><enum>(B)</enum><text>to recognize the
			 substantial contributions that public works professionals make to the
			 Nation.</text>
