		<whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas

			 motor vehicle travel is the primary means of transportation in the United

			 States;</text>

		</whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas

			 everyone on the roads and highways needs to drive more safely to reduce deaths

			 and injuries resulting from motor vehicle accidents;</text>

		</whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas

			 the death of almost 43,000 people a year in more than 6 million highway crashes

			 in America has been called an epidemic by Transportation Secretary Norman

			 Mineta;</text>

		</whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas

			 according to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, wearing

			 a seat belt saved 15,434 lives in 2004; and</text>

		</whereas><whereas commented="no"><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whereas

			 the Sunday after Thanksgiving is the busiest highway traffic day of the year:

			 Now, therefore, be it</text>

		</whereas></preamble>

	<resolution-body display-resolving-clause="yes-display-resolving-clause" style="OLC">

		<section commented="no" display-inline="yes-display-inline" id="S1" section-type="undesignated-section"><enum></enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">That the Senate—</text>

			<paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idD2D74D117E994C13A933FE863622C386"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">encourages—</text>

				<subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="ID5acf6219268c4ad18999f52c03a9eb44"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">high schools, colleges, universities,

			 administrators, teachers, primary schools, and secondary schools to launch

			 campus-wide educational campaigns to urge students to be careful about safety

			 when driving;</text>

				</subparagraph><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="ID76caaef44935429093fbd955b2e69c5c"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">national trucking firms to alert their

			 drivers to be especially focused on driving safely during the heaviest traffic

			 day of the year, and to publicize the importance of the day using Citizen's

			 band (CB) radios and in truck stops across the Nation;</text>

				</subparagraph><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="IDb88298b61099417193bb2bad4291288e"><enum>(C)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">clergy to remind their members to travel

			 safely when attending services and gatherings;</text>

				</subparagraph><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="IDc91222044efa4d2e94652c050fb39989"><enum>(D)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">law enforcement personnel to remind drivers

			 and passengers to drive particularly safely on the Sunday after Thanksgiving;

			 and</text>

				</subparagraph><subparagraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="IDab9cef49523d41da96b061e9e0ca3151"><enum>(E)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">everyone to use the Sunday after

			 Thanksgiving as an opportunity to educate themselves about highway safety;

			 and</text>

				</subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="IDbbf431f8238246319910547f85d36459"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">designates November 27, 2005, as

			 <quote>Drive Safer Sunday</quote>.</text>
