		<official-title display="yes">Designating the week of February 6, 2006 as

		  <quote>National Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention

		  Week</quote>.</official-title>

	<preamble>

		<whereas><text>Whereas 1 in 3 female high school students reports being

			 physically abused or sexually abused by a dating partner;</text>

		</whereas><whereas><text>Whereas over 40 percent of male and female high school

			 students surveyed had been victims of dating violence at least once;</text>

		</whereas><whereas><text>Whereas violent relationships in adolescence can have

			 serious ramifications for victims, who are at higher risk for substance abuse,

			 eating disorders, risky sexual behavior, suicide, and adult

			 re-victimization;</text>

		</whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the severity of violence among intimate partners

			 has been shown to increase if the pattern was established in

			 adolescence;</text>

		</whereas><whereas><text>Whereas 81 percent of parents surveyed either believed

			 dating violence is not a problem or admitted they did not know it is a problem;

			 and</text>

		</whereas><whereas><text>Whereas the establishment of a <quote>National Teen Dating

			 Violence Awareness and Prevention Week</quote> will benefit schools,

			 communities, and families regardless of socio-economic status, race, or gender:

			 Now, therefore, be it</text>

	<resolution-body>

		<section display-inline="yes-display-inline" id="S1" section-type="undesignated-section"><enum></enum><text>That the Senate—</text>

			<paragraph id="id9FE97232E8BD46C79E758EF6C9D14DE4"><enum>(1)</enum><text>designates the

			 week of February 6, 2006 as <quote>National Teen Dating Violence Awareness and

			 Prevention Week</quote>; and</text>

			</paragraph><paragraph id="IDfade0c16d8e34e1790355543c58ce6fe"><enum>(2)</enum><text>calls on the

			 people of the United States, especially high schools, law enforcement, local,

			 and State officials, and interested groups to observe the week with appropriate

			 activities that promote awareness and prevention of the crime of teen dating

			 violence in our communities.</text>
