		<official-title>To amend the National Trails System Act to extend the
		  Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail to include additional sites associated
		  with the preparation or return phase of the Lewis Clark expedition, and for
		  other purposes.</official-title>

			 title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as
			 the <quote><short-title>Lewis and Clark National Historic
			 Trail Extension Act of 2006</short-title></quote>.</text>
		</section><section id="id8AC004F2D0834CAA9216FA4959DDCDE5"><enum>2.</enum><header>Extension of
			 trail</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 5(a)(6) of the
			 National Trails System Act (16 U.S.C. 1244(a)(6)) is amended—</text>
			<paragraph id="ID22579693390a401b92e1bb14a1a9a7fb"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by striking
			 <quote>(6) The</quote> and inserting the following:</text>

				general</header><text>In addition to the route described in subparagraph (A),
				the Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail shall be extended to include the
				route followed by Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, whether independently or
				together, in—</text>
							<subclause id="id9794808FEE204FA983A12069B4A065C1"><enum>(I)</enum><text>the preparation
				phase of the expedition, starting at Monticello, located near Charlottesville,
				Virginia, and traveling to Wood River, Illinois; and</text>
							</subclause><subclause id="id4513A3603BB54B0BA60E66BDCFE4CA16"><enum>(II)</enum><text>the return phase
				of the expedition, starting from Saint Louis, Missouri, to Washington,
				D.C.</text>
							</subclause></clause><clause id="id7AC70807F9E9481C98C754D64E2DBAAF"><enum>(ii)</enum><header>Inclusion of
				designated sites</header><text>The extended route shall include each designated
				Lewis and Clark site located in—</text>
							<subclause id="idE65184F3745045BF8349D1EFBB10055A"><enum>(I)</enum><text>the State of
				Virginia;</text>
							</subclause><subclause id="id20FF69B0C4D94E19B5E03DC7ED48701A"><enum>(II)</enum><text>the District of
				Columbia;</text>
							</subclause><subclause id="idA02AB722AB6847458A6D8B56BBB17EBC"><enum>(III)</enum><text>the State of
				Maryland;</text>
							</subclause><subclause id="id27ED329CC8D0467EBEDB59062225DF25"><enum>(IV)</enum><text>the State of
				Delaware;</text>
							</subclause><subclause id="id83DFBE04A359445EB4DE1C1DDDCA110B"><enum>(V)</enum><text>the State of
				Pennsylvania;</text>
							</subclause><subclause id="id8B7DA69E8AB74ACB8E2B768A709F4394"><enum>(VI)</enum><text>the State of
				West Virginia;</text>
							</subclause><subclause id="id03D8176EF7D24A8FAB72544DB6E784CC"><enum>(VII)</enum><text>the State of
				Ohio;</text>
							</subclause><subclause id="id37033097B438430493053DC80F7AF05F"><enum>(VIII)</enum><text>the State of
				Kentucky;</text>
							</subclause><subclause id="id07DC53C85AF84E65AE5ADE39DF51CC55"><enum>(IX)</enum><text>the State of
				Tennessee;</text>
							</subclause><subclause id="id653FC49D224344EF98C4BF1102E7A531"><enum>(X)</enum><text>the State of
				Indiana; and</text>
							</subclause><subclause id="id07E8906638FE434E873EA2E11D125D7A"><enum>(XI)</enum><text>the State of
				Illinois.</text>
							</subclause></clause><clause id="id4A6A8AFFA8BD4F9E82257B353841E96F"><enum>(iii)</enum><header>Study</header><text>Not
				later than 1 year after the date on which funds are first made available to
				conduct a suitability and feasibility study, the Secretary of the Interior
				shall complete those studies to include the extended
				route.</text>
