		<official-title>A bill to limit authority to delay notice of search

		  warrants.</official-title>

		<section id="ID50CB3497342D4C2CB7DECAA4D2198B4C" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the

			 <quote><short-title>Reasonable Notice and Search

			 Act</short-title></quote>.</text>

		</section><section id="IDED906F54D5EC4EF9B0EC81753E004353"><enum>2.</enum><header>Limitation on

			 authority to delay notice of search warrants</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 3103a of title 18, United States

			 Code, is amended—</text>

			<paragraph id="ID84B60394199D45F0BF68AF24EA8C98EB"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in subsection

			 (b)—</text>

				<subparagraph id="IDC0FC6C2651494D329F02A305001B1BE9"><enum>(A)</enum><text>in paragraph (1),

			 by striking <quote>may have an adverse result (as defined in section

			 2705)</quote> and inserting <quote>will endanger the life or physical safety of

			 an individual, result in flight from prosecution, result in the destruction of

			 or tampering with the evidence sought under the warrant, or result in

			 intimidation of potential witnesses</quote>; and</text>

				</subparagraph><subparagraph id="ID0C17683EB771496E8790017748ABAFA1"><enum>(B)</enum><text>in paragraph (3),

			 by striking <quote>a reasonable period</quote> and all that follows and

			 inserting <quote>7 calendar days, which period, upon application of the

			 Attorney General, the Deputy Attorney General, or an Associate Attorney

			 General, may thereafter be extended by the court for additional periods of up

			 to 7 calendar days each if the court finds, for each application, reasonable

			 cause to believe that notice of the execution of the warrant will endanger the

			 life or physical safety of an individual, result in flight from prosecution,

			 result in the destruction of or tampering with the evidence sought under the

			 warrant, or result in intimidation of potential witnesses.</quote>; and</text>

				</subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="ID037D14CE8741467583417D9DF7C00819"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by adding at the

			 end the following:</text>

					<subsection id="ID16515418DD6F40F2A6187E85BE00D4F7"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Reports</header>

						<paragraph id="ID348CB16F53C84C79827DD0CE3042C1BA"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In

				general</header><text>On a semiannual basis, the Attorney General shall

				transmit to Congress and make public a report concerning all requests for

				delays of notice, and for extensions of delays of notice, with respect to

				warrants under subsection (b).</text>

						</paragraph><paragraph id="ID113AC0049FD4460EAF35D38CA8BBC838"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Contents</header><text>Each

				report under paragraph (1) shall include, with respect to the preceding 6-month

				period—</text>

							<subparagraph id="IDE34BE2B039D644EE0034FC8F7C2C7C10"><enum>(A)</enum><text>the total number

				of requests for delays of notice with respect to warrants under subsection

				(b);</text>

							</subparagraph><subparagraph id="IDE97BD20F2FFB47629CF3BC816E480820"><enum>(B)</enum><text>the total number

				of such requests granted or denied;</text>

							</subparagraph><subparagraph id="ID6837036FD8FF48BA87DC6FB715AADFA9"><enum>(C)</enum><text>for each request

				for delayed notice that was granted, the total number of applications for

				extensions of the delay of notice and the total number of such extensions

				granted or denied; and</text>

							</subparagraph><subparagraph id="id2426EF2A3F3D438BB5389DF631286F0F"><enum>(D)</enum><text>on an aggregate

				basis, the nature of the crime being investigated for each request for delay of

				notice that was granted or denied.</text>

			</paragraph></section><section id="ID79D1DBDC91004A0B80E773B318A649CF"><enum>3.</enum><header>Sunset on

			 delayed notice authority</header>

			<subsection id="IDA558F9D9B035400B90734C50459E34D3"><enum>(a)</enum><header>PATRIOT

			 Act</header><text>Section 224(a) of the USA PATRIOT Act of 2001 (<external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/107/56">Public Law

			 107–56</external-xref>;

			 <external-xref legal-doc="statute-at-large" parsable-cite="stat/115/295">115

			 Stat. 295</external-xref>) is amended by striking <quote>213,</quote>.</text>

			</subsection><subsection id="ID83E05F9576084D75B871ED6D3244498E"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Amendments</header><text>The

			 amendments made by this Act shall sunset as provided in section 224 of the USA

			 PATRIOT Act of 2001.</text>
