<official-title display="yes">Recognizing the Virginia Fire Chief’s Association on the occasion of its 75th anniversary and commending the Virginia Fire Chief’s Association for sponsoring annually the Mid-Atlantic Expo and Symposium.</official-title>

<whereas><text>Whereas in 1930 the Virginia Fire Chief's Association, Inc. was organized by a group of dedicated career and volunteer fire chiefs in the Commonwealth;</text></whereas> 
<whereas><text>Whereas in 1977, members of the Virginia Fire Chief's Association leadership were appointed to a Legislative Advisory Committee that subsequently recommended the establishment of the Fire Services Commission which became the Department of Fire Programs and the Fire Services Board which has become a vital resource to all Departments both career and volunteer;</text></whereas> 
<whereas><text>Whereas 2 of the members of the Virginia Fire Chief's Association have been previously selected as Career Fire Chief of the Year, which is a nationwide honor;</text></whereas> 
<whereas><text>Whereas the association was an organizing member of the Statewide Mutual Aid Committee which in turn created the Statewide Mutual Aid Agreement which now encompasses over 95 percent of the localities in the Commonwealth;</text></whereas> 
<whereas><text>Whereas the Statewide Mutual Aid Agreement was thoroughly tested during Hurricane Isabel in September 2003 and the floods in Richmond in August of 2004;</text></whereas> 
<whereas><text>Whereas Virginia Fire Chief's Association annually sponsors the Mid-Atlantic Expo and Symposium to provide to attending firefighters from the States in the mid-Atlantic region, training with the use of case studies like that of the Virginia Commonwealth University fire in March, 2004, updates on standards and techniques, and information gathering that will increase knowledge of fire service personnel in the Commonwealth; and</text></whereas> 
<whereas><text>Whereas the Mid-Atlantic Expo and Symposium presents to such firefighters workshops on a variety of topics such as the establishing and building of Fire Departments, and successful fire service recruitment strategies: Now, therefore, be it</text></whereas></preamble>
