<section section-type="section-one" id="HA46F6C2E9AC641B79E9468E8D9CDF050" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Polluter Accountability Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section> 
<section id="HA25F5884B23E4E20BE23F706003FBCA"><enum>2.</enum><header><act-name parsable-cite="FWPCA">Federal Water Pollution Control Act</act-name></header> 
<subsection id="H3534E3763DB44204B3AB00F724940271"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Criminal penalties for negligent violations</header><text>Section 309(c)(1) of the <act-name parsable-cite="FWPCA">Federal Water Pollution Control Act</act-name> (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/33/1319">33 U.S.C. 1319(c)(1)</external-xref>) is amended—</text> 
<paragraph id="HD021FE006DC74366AC5D18B8AF59DC8E"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by striking <quote>$2,500</quote> and inserting <quote>$5,000</quote>;</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H0196EABBECEE42C99EAE195776F7002E"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by striking <quote>$25,000</quote> and inserting <quote>$50,000</quote>; and</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="HC9FD6455E6974B408C9F13FD0091B100"><enum>(3)</enum><text>by striking <quote>$50,000</quote> and inserting <quote>$100,000</quote>.</text></paragraph></subsection> 
<subsection id="H860208A0C31A4A7DB6D3A09D62D9F8BB"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Criminal penalties for knowing violations</header><text>Section 309(c)(2) of the <act-name parsable-cite="FWPCA">Federal Water Pollution Control Act</act-name> (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/33/1319">33 U.S.C. 1319(c)(2)</external-xref>) is amended—</text> 
<paragraph id="H0D018D29010940C0A113A6E24ACC08F"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by striking <quote>$5,000</quote> and inserting <quote>$15,000</quote>;</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="HD3AB4042E9524BE698F214B63B7B27D"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by striking <quote>$50,000</quote> and inserting <quote>$250,000</quote>; and</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H153F16CBD6E94A65BA307934ACD8D3EB"><enum>(3)</enum><text>by striking <quote>$100,000</quote> and inserting <quote>$500,000</quote>.</text></paragraph></subsection></section> 
<section id="H5C9F433CBF604D4095FC1B06B36E4750"><enum>3.</enum><header>Refuse Act of 1899</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 16 of the Act of March 3, 1899 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/33/411">33 U.S.C. 411</external-xref>), relating to penalties for violations of the provision of law popularly known as the Refuse Act of 1899, is amended by striking <quote>$25,000</quote> and inserting <quote>$75,000</quote>.</text></section>
