		<official-title display="yes">To amend title 18, United States Code, to
		  prevent and repress the misuse of the Red Crescent distinctive emblem and the
		  Third Protocol (Red Crystal) distinctive emblem.</official-title>

		<section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HBA70EB666C8A4EE0958848A025B14B00" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the
			 <quote><short-title>Geneva Distinctive Emblems Protection
			 Act of 2006</short-title></quote>.</text>
		</section><section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HD83E55E424B54650B0BB3B73CF872B87" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">Geneva distinctive emblems</header>
			<subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H9BF6729F1D4749BF8295731B8933F0FE"><enum>(a)</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">In General</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline"><external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/18/33">Chapter 33</external-xref> of title 18,
			 United States Code, is amended by inserting after
			 section
			 706 the following:</text>
				<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H15A4B1FED48C42D5A8EABF39AB1CE872" style="USC">
					<section commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HFCD65F85A530448A84AC6BDF813A69F" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>706a.</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">Geneva distinctive emblems</header>
						<subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H4E9D26B5DAE24920878EC21B8F5E6BE"><enum>(a)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Whoever wears or displays the sign of the
				Red Crescent or the Third Protocol Emblem (the Red Crystal), or any insignia
				colored in imitation thereof for the fraudulent purpose of inducing the belief
				that he is a member of or an agent for an authorized national society using the
				Red Crescent or the Third Protocol Emblem, the International Committee of the
				Red Cross, or the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent
				Societies shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than 6 months,
				or both.</text>
						</subsection><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H9D7C4698402C47BD852C3E088E5CDDE8"><enum>(b)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Except as set forth in section (c) and (d),
				whoever, whether a corporation, association, or person, uses the emblem of the
				Red Crescent or the Third Protocol Emblem on a white ground or any sign or
				insignia made or colored in imitation thereof or the designations <quote>Red
				Crescent</quote> or <quote>Third Protocol Emblem</quote> shall be fined under
				this title or imprisoned not more than 6 months, or both.</text>
						</subsection><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H5F7F9BB2A9424AB2BE9502983FC9CCB4"><enum>(c)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The following may use such emblems and
				designations consistent with the Geneva Conventions of August 12, 1949, and, if
				applicable, the Additional Protocols:</text>
							<paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H698E1CE1120D450800A352A8004D00AB"><enum>(1)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Authorized national societies that are
				members of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies
				and their duly authorized employees and agents.</text>
							</paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H963379A4801D4A6796EE346D8C1B22E5"><enum>(2)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The International Committee of the Red
				Cross and its duly authorized employees and agents.</text>
							</paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H54153E5B4EF24F3E91DBDC67643CC4F"><enum>(3)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The International Federation of Red Cross
				and Red Crescent Societies and its duly authorized employees and agents.</text>
							</paragraph><paragraph commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H0FBFA66BF2B744C682D53F5E39A8116C"><enum>(4)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The sanitary and hospital authorities of
				the armed forces of State Parties to the Geneva Conventions of August 12,
				1949.</text>
							</paragraph></subsection><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H6D9C433E945F47C6BCE5601E56EA11A6"><enum>(d)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">This section does not make unlawful the use
				of any such emblem, sign, insignia, or words which was lawful on or before
				December 8, 2005, if such use would not appear in time of armed conflict to
				confer the protections of the Geneva Conventions of August 12, 1949, and, if
				applicable, the Additional Protocols.</text>
						</subsection><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H73AD3E25851A4D19AEC942217828B71E"><enum>(e)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">A violation of this section or section 706
				may be enjoined at the civil suit of the Attorney
				General.</text>
						</subsection></section><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
			</subsection><subsection commented="no" display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H9B530241ECC74E2694B9D62C00A7D6BB"><enum>(b)</enum><header display-inline="yes-display-inline">Clerical amendment</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The table of sections at the beginning of
			 <external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/18/33">chapter 33</external-xref> of title 18,
			 United States Code, is amended by inserting after the item relating to
			 section
			 706 the following new item:</text>
