		  provide for Medicare coverage of screening tests for human papillomavirus

		<section id="H3498633DB88B475DAD4F07983EDC00A6" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Medicare coverage of
			 screening tests for human papillomavirus (HPV)</header>
			<subsection id="H7F5B03D8951B46348C624306009D799B"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In
			 general</header><text>Section 1861 of the Social Security Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/1395x">42 U.S.C. 1395x</external-xref>)
			 is amended—</text>
				<paragraph id="H7690E488F90C4B4F90BAC0AE4D9535C7"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in subsection
			 (s)(14), by inserting <quote>, screening HPV test,</quote> after
			 <quote>screening pap smear</quote>; and</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="HF72FB211C3994F90A38EBF79D3042B00"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in subsection
			 (nn)—</text>
					<subparagraph id="H413E19B1BC2E4B50AEAF37936DDACCB5"><enum>(A)</enum><text>in the heading, by
			 inserting <quote><header-in-text level="subsection" style="traditional">screening HPV test;</header-in-text></quote> after
			 <quote><header-in-text level="subsection" style="traditional">screening pap
			 smear</header-in-text>;</quote> ; and</text>
					</subparagraph><subparagraph id="HFB7C31113F6048D2BE97E9FC65F65557"><enum>(B)</enum><text>by adding at the
			 end the following new paragraph:</text>
						<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H9FA5A13B5F8A4C02B1075DE0516CD3F9" style="traditional">
							<paragraph id="HCDE6386F66EE4119A7EA2526ED75A5B" indent="up1"><enum>(4)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The term <term>screening HPV test</term>
				means a molecular laboratory test approved by the Food and Drug Administration
				for detecting the presence of the types of human papillomavirus (HPV) that have
				been associated (as determined by the Secretary in consultation with
				representatives of gynecologists) with a higher risk of cervical cancer, if
				conducted in combination with a screening pap smear and if the woman involved
				has not had such a test during the preceding 2 years, or during the preceding
				year in the case of a woman described in paragraph
				(3).</text>
							</paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
					</subparagraph></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HBAF07C49B8FE492FA664643D3185E74D"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Conforming
			 amendments</header>
				<paragraph display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HA83B18D29C454E7ABB5CF2ED615EB6ED"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Inclusion in
			 referrals as part of initial preventive physical examination</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 1861(ww)(2)(C) of such Act (42
			 U.S.C. 1396x(ww)(2)(C)) is amended by inserting <quote>, screening HPV
			 test,</quote> after <quote>screening pap smear</quote>.</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="H8F178755B9CB4B198CDDC2EBCA44C575"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Waiver of
			 deductible</header><text>Section 1833(b)(6) of such Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/1395l">42 U.S.C. 1395l(b)(6)</external-xref>)
			 is amended by inserting <quote>, screening HPV test,</quote> after
			 <quote>screening pap smear</quote>.</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="HAC9874322448463887428419CB210012"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Application of
			 pap smear payment rule</header><text>Section 1833(h)(7) of such Act (42 U.S.C.
			 1305l(h)(7)) is amended by adding at the end the following: <quote>Such minimum
			 payment amount shall also apply to payment for screening HPV
			 tests</quote>.</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="H888181926D2E4543A2DF3114A9C37337"><enum>(4)</enum><header>Application of
			 pap smear frequency limits</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Section 1862(a)(1)(F) of such Act (42
			 U.S.C. 1395y(a)(1)(F)) is amended by inserting <quote>, screening HPV
			 test,</quote> after <quote>screening pap smear</quote>.</text>
				</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HB39D491153DD43A38C609F228F963516"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Effective
			 date</header><text>The amendments made by this section shall apply to services
			 furnished on or after January 1, 2007.</text>
