		<section id="H23C53B89A14B45FEAC00D8D2DF3CAD2" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the
			 <quote>Volunteer Firefighter/Emergency Medical Service Gas Price Relief Act of
			 2006</quote>.</text>
		</section><section display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HF2ECD08443CF4EA6BDE73CA7078D3372"><enum>2.</enum><header>Allowance of
			 deduction for travel expenses of emergency volunteers</header>
			<subsection id="H346CCB2C7CEC49E9B181E6F325FDB832"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In
			 general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Part VII of
			 subchapter B of <external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/26/1">chapter 1</external-xref> of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 (relating to
			 additional itemized deductions for individuals) is amended by redesignating
			 section 224 as section 225 and by inserting after section 223 the following new
			 section:</text>

					<section id="H517DFA8BB8DA4D6EB279582BEAC1F138"><enum>224.</enum><header>Travel expenses
				of emergency volunteers</header>
						<subsection id="H97D133ED1AC1406397F6C741EE806ED1"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Allowance of
				deduction</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In the case of a
				qualified emergency volunteer, there shall be allowed as a deduction for the
				taxable year an amount equal to the qualified travel expenses paid or incurred
				by the qualified emergency volunteer during the taxable year.</text>
						</subsection><subsection id="H8BF5F37F7EE04DA0A893D969AF17B14E"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Dollar
				limitation</header><text>The amount allowed as a deduction under subsection (a)
				with respect to a qualified emergency volunteer for any taxable year shall not
				exceed $250.</text>
						</subsection><subsection id="HB6DCA91348E940AA831CAD4EE973CFB7"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Qualified
				emergency volunteer</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">For
				purposes of this section, the term <term>qualified emergency volunteer</term>
				means a volunteer who provides firefighting or emergency medical services in
				conjunction with a qualified volunteer fire department (as defined in section
				150(e)).</text>
						</subsection><subsection id="H34EE085634AF4A51B8389730704D308B"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Qualified travel
				expenses</header><text>For purposes of this section, the term <term>qualified
				travel expenses</term> means—</text>
							<paragraph id="H0FAFA8A96B9B42F983E55EC45BE49E33"><enum>(1)</enum><text>the distance
				traveled by the qualified emergency volunteer in a motor vehicle (as defined in
				section 30(c)(2)) owned by such volunteer to and from a qualified volunteer
				fire department (as defined in section 150(e)) or the scene of an emergency
				with respect to which such volunteer provides firefighting or emergency medical
				services, multiplied by</text>
							</paragraph><paragraph id="H242A507BE7054C1297C63FFA2B40724C"><enum>(2)</enum><text>the standard
				mileage rate (as defined in section 170(i)).</text>
							</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="HA1F33766645943AF90431341D475BC05"><enum>(e)</enum><header>Denial of double
				benefit</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">No deduction shall be
				allowed under subsection (a) for any expense for which a deduction or credit is
				allowed under any other provision of this
				chapter.</text>
						</subsection></section><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
			</subsection><subsection id="H22C477DC3DF04F1B9503D80707839E03"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Clerical
			 amendment</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The table of
			 sections for part VII of subchapter B of chapter 1 of such Code is amended by
			 striking the item relating to section 224 and by inserting after section 223
			 the following new items:</text>

			</subsection><subsection id="H5B0AC9AA383940A3A25BEA2403E6CD7D"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Effective
			 date</header><text>The amendments made by this section shall apply to taxable
			 years beginning after December 31, 2006.</text>
