		<official-title>To modify certain post-employment restrictions with
		  respect to officers and employees of the Department of Homeland
		  Security.</official-title>

		<section id="HA135AD1AA2224CC7892D49C4ED5D2383" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the
			 <quote><short-title>Close the Revolving Door
			 Act</short-title></quote>.</text>
		</section><section display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HFDD5DC70069E4A29BE62D2B5EF25C3F" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Post-employment
			 restrictions</header>
			<subsection id="H83F72DE3B33B4D45A6DF008F1DCB38F2"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Clarification</header><text>The
			 reference, in <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/18/207">section 207(c)(1)</external-xref> of title 18, United States Code, to
			 <quote>within 1 year before such termination</quote>, as applied to officers
			 and employees of the Department of Homeland Security, means <quote>at any time
			 during the 1-year period before such termination</quote>.</text>
			</subsection><subsection id="H3280CEFC78AF4B3591AECEE3157126A8"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Requests for
			 waivers barred</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Neither the
			 Department of Homeland Security nor any agency thereof may request a waiver of
			 restrictions under <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/18/207">section 207(c)(2)(C)</external-xref> of title 18, United States Code.</text>
			</subsection><subsection id="H4F4453DDF82140D1A348AD1869F51C21"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Applicability to
			 agents</header><text>The restrictions contained in subsections (a), (b), (c),
			 and (d) of <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/18/207">section 207</external-xref> of title 18, United States Code, as applied to a former
			 officer or employee of the Department of Homeland Security, and the penalties
			 for violating those restrictions, also apply to any person who makes a
			 communication or appearance on behalf of that former officer or employee that
			 would be prohibited under subsection (a), (b), (c), or (d), as the case may be,
			 if made by the former officer or employee.</text>
			</subsection><subsection id="H3360B58EE30047FD8901EDAEFD71EAD8"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Designations as
			 separate agencies and bureaus barred</header><text>No agency, bureau, or other
			 entity of the Department of Homeland Security may be designated under section
			 207(h)(1) of title 18, United States Code, as a separate agency or
			 bureau.</text>
			</subsection><subsection id="HF64087AAEFD54FCEB19F3BD254C548A"><enum>(e)</enum><header>Effective
			 date</header>
				<paragraph id="HC153A9969FE64395967FAD5400E60722"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In
			 general</header><text>This section takes effect on the date of the enactment of
			 this Act.</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="HE33FD58311B0486DBF65FE00C3078CE8"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Applicability to
			 former officers and employees</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Subsections (a) and (c) apply to
			 communications and appearances made on or after the date of the enactment of
			 this Act by or on behalf of an individual whose service as an officer or
			 employee terminates before, on, or after such date of enactment.</text>
				</paragraph><paragraph id="H2163AADAFAF2421DBF29DC763BF4CD27"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Applicability to
			 designations</header><text>The following shall cease to be effective on the
			 date of the enactment of this Act:</text>
					<subparagraph id="H81D91226E7A846B700C269A09500D6AA"><enum>(A)</enum><text>Any waiver of
			 restrictions made under <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/18/207">section 207(c)(2)(C)</external-xref> of title 18, United States Code,
			 before the enactment of this Act, with respect to any position, or category of
			 positions, in the Department of Homeland Security.</text>
					</subparagraph><subparagraph id="H56779820195745749EB95D5906B0759E"><enum>(B)</enum><text>Any designation of
			 an agency, bureau, or other entity in the Department of Homeland Security,
			 before the enactment of this Act, under <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/18/207">section 207(h)(1)</external-xref> of title 18, United
			 States Code, as a separate agency or bureau.</text>
					</subparagraph></paragraph></subsection></section></legis-body>
