<official-title>To amend title XVI of the Social Security Act to provide that annuities paid by States to blind veterans shall be disregarded in determining supplemental security income benefits.</official-title>

<section section-type="section-one" id="H3501A0E327CA45258D1D3C6E9264889C" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>1.</enum><header>State annuities for blind veterans to be disregarded in determining supplemental security income benefits</header> 
<subsection id="HADDF57A10DB5469FB081C0552B64FEA0"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Income disregard</header><text>Section 1612(b) of the <act-name parsable-cite="SSA">Social Security Act</act-name> (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/1382a">42 U.S.C. 1382a(b)</external-xref>) is amended—</text> 
<paragraph id="H0F4E45B435B3493BA312D6562DAB6C1E"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by striking <quote>and</quote> at the end of paragraph (21);</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="HFCE72A392F04456D8B16BFE184ED5EA5"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by striking the period at the end of paragraph (22) and inserting <quote>; and</quote>; and</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H590FA4D4A0B14C76A8457993BA565C3E"><enum>(3)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following:</text>

<paragraph id="H356EE47DB08A4AD798AC0337EA24A81"><enum>(23)</enum><text>any annuity paid by a State to the individual (or such spouse) on the basis of the individual’s being a veteran (as defined in <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/38/101">section 101</external-xref> of title 38, United States Code) and blind, if a law of such State providing for such an annuity was in effect on the date of the enactment of this paragraph.</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></subsection> 
<subsection id="H61EECC2B55FA4D9D82A81714F7696E7E"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Resource disregard</header><text>Section 1613(a) of such Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/1382b">42 U.S.C. 1382b(a)</external-xref>) is amended—</text> 
<paragraph id="H278ADEDD39B346D893FC330094A5E8E2"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by striking <quote>and</quote> at the end of paragraph (14);</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H25426C80BC9C473B9762DA35C8077EB"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by striking the period at the end of paragraph (15) and inserting <quote>; and</quote>; and</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H90D3BCF98890496D93E934B5336F5C00"><enum>(3)</enum><text>by inserting after paragraph (15) the following:</text>

<paragraph id="HC52FBE8607D44E5EBA0329EF90B1618B"><enum>(16)</enum><text>for the month of receipt and every month thereafter, any annuity paid by a State to the individual (or such spouse) on the basis of the individual’s being a veteran (as defined in <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/38/101">section 101</external-xref> of title 38, United States Code) and blind, if a law of such State providing for such an annuity was in effect on the date of the enactment of this paragraph.</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></subsection> 
<subsection id="H0FE169032762491985EB2D9D1206E61"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text>The amendments made by this section shall apply to benefits paid for months beginning after the date of the enactment of this Act.</text></subsection></section>
