		<legis-type>A BILL</legis-type>
		<official-title>To amend title 38, United States Code, to increase to
		  $2,000 the amount of the Medal of Honor special pension under that title and to
		  provide for payment of that pension to the surviving spouse of a deceased Medal
		  of Honor recipient.</official-title>

		<section id="H764A219E091A4A128B566FFEEB897DF1" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Medal of Honor special
			 pension</header>
			<subsection id="HBD524596FD2946289B3504069048F39F"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Increase in rate
			 of special pension</header><text>Subsection (a) of <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/38/1562">section 1562</external-xref> of title 38,
			 United States Code, is amended by striking <quote>$1,000</quote> and inserting
			 <quote>$2,000</quote>.</text>
			</subsection><subsection id="HFAF8708280664196BF00A702FC2123DC"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Special pension
			 for surviving spouses</header>
				<paragraph id="HDD5AD7C92CAB45BA8CAECA0019D9EBFD"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Surviving spouse
			 benefit</header><text>Such subsection is further amended—</text>
					<subparagraph id="HD702ECADA1404CD7009976F0A4F4BFB6"><enum>(A)</enum><text>by inserting
			 <quote>(1)</quote> after <quote>(a)</quote>; and</text>
					</subparagraph><subparagraph id="H6B06E96F3BE3484B92CE00F08060E0A6"><enum>(B)</enum><text>by adding at the
			 end the following new paragraph:</text>
						<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="HA66161CCDD524669A9BAEA3D84D04876" style="USC">
							<paragraph id="H13432EC48D504FCE8C008DE786E0B0C2" indent="up1"><enum>(2)</enum><text>The Secretary shall pay special
				pension under this section to the surviving spouse of a person who was awarded
				a Medal of Honor as described in section 1560(b) of this title. However, no
				special pension shall be paid to a surviving spouse of a person under this
				section unless such surviving spouse was married to such person—</text>
								<subparagraph id="HB0631C1498BA4F9DA2A5B998497EC718"><enum>(A)</enum><text>for one year or more; or</text>
								</subparagraph><subparagraph id="HE03490EB684A458D81AF7361992FFA18"><enum>(B)</enum><text>for any period of time if a child was
				born of the marriage, or was born to them before the
				marriage.</text>
								</subparagraph></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
					</subparagraph></paragraph><paragraph id="HAAB6475373874C1987698E82D1654CCD"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Conforming
			 amendments</header>
					<subparagraph id="H3F4F9E2F597949DF876B587FA7FD3913"><enum>(A)</enum><text>Subsection (d) of
			 such section is amended by inserting <quote>or married to more than one person
			 who has been awarded the Medal of Honor,</quote> after
			 <quote>Honor,</quote>.</text>
					</subparagraph><subparagraph id="H2ECCEF4C73C84082A5FE9C013EEA4C75"><enum>(B)</enum><text>Subsection (f)(1)
			 of such section is amended by striking <quote>this section</quote> and
			 inserting <quote>subsection (a)(1)</quote>.</text>
					</subparagraph><subparagraph id="H271893712E9A4A89A35B6CFB8337B597"><enum>(C)</enum><text>Section 103(d)(5)
			 of such title is amended by adding at the end the following new subparagraph:</text>
						<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="H304E4742A23345589926749FF6A70547" style="USC">
							<subparagraph id="H0FFFE5980CA348EAAC8D86B49B00A300" indent="up1"><enum>(E)</enum><text>Section 1562(a)(2), relating to Medal
				of Honor special
				pension.</text>
							</subparagraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
					</subparagraph></paragraph></subsection><subsection id="H5F9B49A882D14E9C94BE164CE8DC8FF3"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Effective
			 date</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The amendments made by
			 this section shall apply with respect to payment of pension under section 1562
			 of title 38, United States Code, for months beginning after the date of the
			 enactment of this Act.</text>
