<official-title>To eliminate the unfair and disadvantageous treatment of cash military compensation other than basic pay under the supplemental security income benefits program.</official-title>

<section section-type="section-one" id="HD4FCB8EE94B94FDD8C6F78009DC19E49" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Military Families Financial Security Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section> 
<section id="H806308291F2C49DFABBAE6124EA79B18"><enum>2.</enum><header>Treatment of uniformed service compensation</header> 
<subsection id="H3E08DE390D0C47849954DA0631C5AD6E"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Treatment of uniformed service cash remuneration as earned income</header> 
<paragraph id="H66664E9D91B544B09D810014A6107399"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Section 1612(a)(1)(A) of the <act-name parsable-cite="SSA">Social Security Act</act-name> (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/1382a">42 U.S.C. 1382a(a)(1)(A)</external-xref>) is amended by inserting <quote>(and, in the case of cash remuneration paid for service as a member of a uniformed service (other than payments described in paragraph (2)(H)), without regard to the limitations contained in section 209(d))</quote> before the semicolon.</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H4B05EC1ADDA448410015899F77A2474E"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Certain housing payments treated as in-kind support and maintenance</header><text>Section 1612(a)(2) of such Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/1382a">42 U.S.C. 1382a(a)(2)</external-xref>) is amended—</text> 
<subparagraph id="H21FDABB1BEA6419CA6B2E937A08F00A1"><enum>(A)</enum><text>by striking <quote>and</quote> at the end of subparagraph (F);</text></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="H8AB539F088464040848B042EAB476C6B"><enum>(B)</enum><text>by striking the period at the end of subparagraph (G) and inserting <quote>; and</quote>; and</text></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="H77FE3CAD9FCB4450AF2F1BA1296D1409"><enum>(C)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following:</text>

<subparagraph id="HBCD6E54D35F54270A4595417C6D2FD9D"><enum>(H)</enum><text>payments to or on behalf of a member of a uniformed service for housing of the member (and his or her dependents, if any) on a facility of a uniformed service, including payments provided under <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/37/403">section 403</external-xref> of title 37, United States Code, for housing that is acquired or constructed under subchapter IV of <external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/10/169">chapter 169</external-xref> of title 10 of such Code, or any related provision of law, and any such payments shall be treated as support and maintenance in kind subject to subparagraph (A) of this paragraph.</text></subparagraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subparagraph></paragraph></subsection> 
<subsection id="HC412270629EF419D00ECD2EFCBD6DA03"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text>The amendments made by this section shall be effective with respect to benefits payable for months beginning at least 90 days after the date of the enactment of this Act.</text></subsection></section>
