<official-title>To amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to expand the combat zone income tax exclusion to include income for the period of transit to the combat zone and to remove the limitation on such exclusion for commissioned officers.</official-title>

<section section-type="section-one" id="HD58F9700047A4E72A3A4EB3CA57DEF54" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>1.</enum><header>Expansion of income tax exclusion for combat zone service</header> 
<subsection id="HF4A7065A488F4FC69DE67CF2B3ACD226"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Combat zone service to include transit to zone</header><text><external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/26/112">Section 112(c)(3)</external-xref> of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 (relating to definitions) is amended by adding at the end the following new sentence: <quote>Such service shall include any period of direct transit to the combat zone.</quote>.</text></subsection> 
<subsection id="HA51EB9BD69BD4BFE8644357FD219B5BB"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Removal of limitation on exclusion for commissioned officers</header> 
<paragraph id="HF3D667AD7406436AA776208B2229237F"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Subsection (b) of <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/26/112">section 112</external-xref> of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 (relating to certain combat zone compensation of members of the Armed Forces) is repealed.</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H97F44BCC66244AA896C800BFD77ED4F"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Conforming amendments</header> 
<subparagraph id="HD8081F40C569439FBF3C00D1AC3F1B00"><enum>(A)</enum><text>Section 112(a) of such Code is amended—</text> 
<clause id="H80C6F4A9744B45EFA8DF4EC0BE411E79"><enum>(i)</enum><text>by striking <quote>below the grade of commissioned officer</quote>, and</text></clause> 
<clause id="H5469B337FCA14D5F83D70929277BBBA9"><enum>(ii)</enum><text>by striking <quote><header-in-text level="subsection">Enlisted Personnel</header-in-text></quote> in the heading and inserting <quote><header-in-text level="subsection">In General</header-in-text></quote>.</text></clause></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="HB358493ED6F34DE59D3D16A8BFE3A614"><enum>(B)</enum><text>Section 112(c) of such Code, as amended by subsection (a), is amended by striking paragraphs (1) and (5) and by redesignating paragraphs (2), (3), and (4) as paragraphs (1), (2), and (3), respectively.</text></subparagraph></paragraph></subsection> 
<subsection id="H2EC5332ED1614BBDB5CB48DA7C31D28D"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text>The amendments made by this section shall apply to months beginning after the date of the enactment of this Act.</text></subsection></section>
