<section id="H05CEA70F72144E608676D7D36E065514" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Limitation on United States military assistance to Ethiopia</header>
<subsection id="H1B4F675ED3AF4807BA734FC8BA4C55A2"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Amendments</header><text>Chapter 1 of part III of the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/22/2351">22 U.S.C. 2351 et seq.</external-xref>) is amended—</text>
<paragraph id="HFCB19B4C56D64DC1B4FEEAC87FAD3C58"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by redesignating the second section 620G (as added by section 149 of <external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/104/164">Public Law 104–164</external-xref> (110 Stat. 1436)) as section 620J; and</text></paragraph>
<paragraph id="H0703E6656D004BFB96F245A7457FB152"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following new section:</text>

<section id="HDD341C75458244C382BD8ECBAE04F461"><enum>620K.</enum><header>Limitation on military assistance to Ethiopia</header>
<subsection id="H23CBD65CAA9743F4A6726FC644E1F6AC"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Limitation</header><text>Military assistance may be provided to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and military equipment and technology may be sold, transferred, or licensed for sale to Ethiopia pursuant to the authorities contained in this Act or any other Act only if the President first transmits to Congress a certification described in subsection (b).</text></subsection>
<subsection id="H395B0CB38D8749259FCA00271F00DFFA"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Certification</header><text>A certification described in this subsection is a certification that contains a determination of the President that the Government of Ethiopia will not use the military assistance to be provided or the military equipment or technology to be sold, transferred, or licensed for sale against pro-democracy advocates or peaceful civilian protesters in Ethiopia.</text></subsection></section><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></subsection>
<subsection id="HBFA124ECD31C428E806CD249BEABD5C"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The limitation on the provision of United States military assistance and the sale, transfer, or licensing of United States military equipment or technology to Ethiopia under section 620K of the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961 (as added by subsection (a) of this section) applies with respect to the provision of such assistance and the sale, transfer, or licensing of such equipment or technology for fiscal year 2007 and subsequent fiscal years.</text> </subsection></section>
