<official-title>To amend title 38, United States Code, to increase the amount of assistance available to disabled veterans for specially adapted housing and to provide for annual increases in such amount.</official-title>

<section id="HF20258EFFA024FEE00187C43FAE9D7E5" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Disabled Veterans Adaptive Housing Improvement Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section> 
<section id="H55D408337BF34CA3BDBD19BAB52BBB"><enum>2.</enum><header>Increase in amount of assistance available to disabled veterans for specially adapted housing</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline"><external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/38/2102">Section 2102</external-xref> of title 38, United States Code, is amended—</text> 
<paragraph id="HB78B010D1E0F4E0CA7D630D158E1057E"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in subsection (a), by striking <quote>$50,000</quote> and inserting <quote>$60,000, as increased under subsection (c),</quote>; and</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="HA69DE62962B247DAB290169803D0C3D1"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in subsection (b)(2), by striking <quote>$10,000.</quote> and inserting <quote>$12,000, as increased under subsection (c).</quote>.</text></paragraph></section> 
<section id="H036BB9AA899740E69776604F395C2C2B"><enum>3.</enum><header>Index of amount of assistance available to reflect increase in cost of residential home construction</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline"><external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/38/2102">Section 2102</external-xref> of title 38, United States Code, as amended by section 2, is further amended—</text> 
<paragraph id="H9F836B6E941D4FF19449A5F5B45002D"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by redesignating subsection (c) as subsection (d); and</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H32A7A813FF3C4B3B83B67DB4738746FC"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by inserting after subsection (b) the following new subsection (c):</text>

<subsection id="H4D0DCECA4CD9420494A1F0012723F1F" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>(c)</enum> 
<paragraph id="H699B2647FC604C5FB622C300E64BAE1F" display-inline="yes-display-inline"><enum>(1)</enum><text>Effective on October 1 of each year (beginning in 2007), the Secretary shall increase the amounts in effect under subsections (a) and (b)(2) in accordance with this subsection.</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H35CFD9DC99B744A6B607BFBA40DFA2BF" indent="up1"><enum>(2)</enum><text>The increase in amounts under paragraph (1) to take effect on October 1 of any year shall be the percentage by which (A) the residential home cost-of-construction index for the preceding calendar year exceeds (B) the residential home cost-of-construction index for the year preceding that year. </text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="HAEC3641F8503462C978B9572167BA302" indent="up1"><enum>(3)</enum><text>The Secretary shall establish a residential home cost-of-construction index for the purposes of this subsection. The index shall reflect a uniform, national average increase in the cost of residential home construction, determined on a calendar year basis. The Secretary may use an index developed in the private sector that the Secretary determines is appropriate for purposes of this subsection.</text> </paragraph></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></section>
