<official-title>To provide for the establishment of a memorial within Kalaupapa National Historical Park located on the island of Molokai, in the State of Hawaii, to honor and perpetuate the memory of those individuals who were forcibly relocated to the Kalaupapa Peninsula from 1866 to 1969, and for other purposes.</official-title>

<section id="HE74ACEF73D514CA5B621C6D5A2D4998E" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Kalaupapa Memorial Act of 2005</short-title></quote>.</text> </section>
<section id="HD0039FDA624B4F129CA7D4A2C7012B47"><enum>2.</enum><header>Establishment of memorial within Kalaupapa National Historical Park</header> 
<subsection id="H0ADADD4A98354591B11F5B8FEEA65024"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The Secretary of Interior shall authorize Ka ‘Ohana O Kalaupapa, a non-profit organization consisting of patient residents at Kalaupapa National Historical Park, and their family members and friends, to establish a memorial at a suitable location or locations approved by the Secretary at Kalawao or Kalaupapa within the boundaries of Kalaupapa National Historical Park located on the island of Molokai, in the State of Hawaii, to honor and perpetuate the memory of those individuals who were forcibly relocated to Kalaupapa Peninsula from 1866 to 1969.</text> </subsection>
<subsection id="H6375DEEEDE554CB4A0D03C14C6F8EE95"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Design</header> 
<paragraph id="H7CF737359C844BA692DD07AD9DB6027"><enum>(1)</enum><header>In general</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The memorial authorized by subsection (a) shall—</text> 
<subparagraph id="H847E9A58CF4248A79129DC5BAEF61153"><enum>(A)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">display in an appropriate manner the names of the first 5,000 individuals sent to the Kalaupapa Peninsula between 1866 and 1896, most of whom lived at Kalawao; and</text> </subparagraph>
<subparagraph id="H2ED1B048F7C641A8A107DF8848F864C"><enum>(B)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">display in an appropriate manner the names of the approximately 3,000 individuals who arrived at Kalaupapa in the second part of its history, when most of the community was concentrated on the Kalaupapa side of the peninsula.</text> </subparagraph></paragraph>
<paragraph id="HEB286E5543F844ED9109408201D1F526"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Approval</header><text>The size, design, and inscriptions of the memorial authorized by subsection (a) shall be subject to the approval of the Secretary of the Interior.</text> </paragraph></subsection></section>
