<official-title>To provide for the designation of a Department of Agriculture disaster liaison to assist State and local employees of the Department in coordination with other disaster agencies in responding to federally declared disasters.</official-title>

<section section-type="section-one" id="HCC0496CCF36544E2AE73E3FED73408D9"> <enum>1.</enum> <header>Department of Agriculture liaison for disaster emergencies</header> 
<subsection id="HF6595C88E5D646CCBE326CF5DD3C8839"> <enum>(a)</enum> <header>Deployment of disaster liaison</header> <text>The Secretary of Agriculture shall deploy disaster liaisons to State and local Department of Agriculture Service Centers in a federally declared disaster area whenever Federal Emergency Management Agency personnel are deployed in that area, to coordinate Department programs with the appropriate disaster agencies designated under the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/5121">42 U.S.C. 5121 et seq.</external-xref>).</text> </subsection> 
<subsection id="H7B14097F42F54830B6FCFBD56936FBB"> <enum>(b)</enum> <header>Qualifications</header> <text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Disaster liaisons shall be selected from among employees of the Department of Agriculture who have experience providing emergency disaster relief in federally declared disaster areas.</text> </subsection> 
<subsection id="HDEEA0618384D40E3AA5D3CA3D0C83474"> <enum>(c)</enum> <header>Duties</header> <text>A disaster liaison shall—</text> 
<paragraph id="H03DE730BA04A43CE9B7B42CDB6ED722"> <enum>(1)</enum> <text>serve as a liaison to State and Federal Emergency Services;</text> </paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H09E0F3E482D9428AB366414FFF8BB800"> <enum>(2)</enum> <text display-inline="yes-display-inline">be deployed to a federally declared disaster area to coordinate Department interagency programs to provide assistance to agricultural producers in the federally declared disaster area;</text> </paragraph> 
<paragraph id="HBB2DAF37589D4A3F9DE06991614DD39"> <enum>(3)</enum> <text>facilitate the claims and applications of agricultural producers who are victims of the disaster that are forwarded to the Department by the appropriate State Department of Agriculture agency director; and</text> </paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H9ABCE46C5BDC44828FBBFEF1BA3C65D9"> <enum>(4)</enum> <text>coordinate with the Director of the State office of the appropriate Department agency to assist with the application for and distribution of economic assistance.</text> </paragraph> </subsection> 
<subsection id="H1457D42FC8A449468839ACE74EA9458"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Federally declared disaster area defined</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In this section, the term <quote>federally declared disaster area</quote> means—</text> 
<paragraph id="H5CA256020408484BB5FB4FA5451DF72E"> <enum>(1)</enum> <text>an area covered by a Presidential declaration of major disaster issued under section 401 of the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/5170">42 U.S.C. 5170</external-xref>); or</text> </paragraph>
<paragraph id="H7E883423A35D491E9B1C85DCBF8C3CED"> <enum>(2)</enum> <text>determined to be a disaster area by the Secretary of Agriculture under subpart A of part 1945 of title 7, Code of Federal Regulations.</text> </paragraph></subsection> </section>
