		<official-title>To amend the Water Desalination Act of 1996 to authorize
		  the Secretary of the Interior to assist in research and development,
		  environmental and feasibility studies, and preliminary engineering for the
		  Municipal Water District of Orange County, California, Dana Point Desalination
		  Project located at Dana Point, California.</official-title>

		<section id="ID85D54C0323AE4F5EBE5479FE1B0750CB" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote>Dana
			 Point Desalination Project Authorization Act</quote>.</text>
		</section><section id="IDD2A8039F114F455887C38C4C8E8A7C06"><enum>2.</enum><header>Authorization
			 for dana point desalination project</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">The Water Desalination Act of 1996 (42
			 U.S.C. 10301 note; <external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/104/298">Public Law 104–298</external-xref>) is amended by adding at the end the
			 following new section:</text>
			<quoted-block id="ID67B66EB0CBCC4A568D752F254C6F9C8D" style="OLC">
				<section id="ID6B63F87188CE40249C8738587E87264A"><enum>10.</enum><header>Dana point
				desalination research and feasibility related costs</header>
					<subsection id="ID2FA443D1326F4801BE4D7D15ECAA226A"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Authority</header><text>The
				Secretary may assist in research and development, environmental and feasibility
				studies, and preliminary engineering for the Municipal Water District of Orange
				County, California, Dana Point Desalination Project located at Dana Point,
				California.</text>
					</subsection><subsection id="IDA58C5187B300426295F33CE22A406B19"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Federal
				Share</header><text>Notwithstanding section 7, the Federal share of the costs
				for the project assisted under subsection (a) shall not exceed 25 percent of
				the total costs of the project.</text>
					</subsection><subsection id="ID5A8845F918D540B2874772E64501636A"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Authorization
				of Appropriations</header><text>There is hereby authorized to be appropriated
				to the Secretary $2,500,000 to carry out this section.</text>
					</subsection><subsection id="ID0CEFA4F6628246D3AA345F116A9839F8"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Sunset</header><text>The
				authority of the Secretary to carry out any provisions of this section shall
				terminate 10 years after the date of the enactment of this
				section.</text>
					</subsection></section><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
		</section><section changed="added" id="id9C056BC7673C4474A9DDCD4FAE262A4B" reported-display-style="italic"><enum>3.</enum><header>Authorization for Rhode
			 Island desalination study</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">The
			 Water Desalination Act of 1996 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/10301">42 U.S.C. 10301</external-xref> note; <external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/104/298">Public Law 104–298</external-xref>) (as
			 amended by section 2) is amended by adding at the end the following:</text>
			<quoted-block display-inline="no-display-inline" id="idC771140000344CD8BDFE979B64EDA1BC" style="OLC" changed="added" reported-display-style="italic">
				<section id="id326448C21DA34E7AB260E31830F4AC57"><enum>11.</enum><header>Feasibility study for
				desalination to supply central and southern Rhode Island</header>
					<subsection id="id72EA69F8F4A6404EB6A1E0EC7D0AC9EF"><enum>(a)</enum><header>Authority</header><text>The
				Secretary, in coordination with the University of Rhode Island, the Rhode
				Island Coalition for Water Security, and the Rhode Island Water Resources
				Board, shall conduct a comparative study to assess the cost-effectiveness and
				the environmental impact of providing a potable water supply to central and
				southern Rhode Island by—</text>
						<paragraph id="idB0F946896B8542DE92B425D7DD26DA59"><enum>(1)</enum><text>desalination;</text>
						</paragraph><paragraph id="id0AD563AD662243939FA4B19A42A14866"><enum>(2)</enum><text>reduced nonessential use
				of potable water;</text>
						</paragraph><paragraph id="id7E590432C6EF4C16B4887A0B810A6989"><enum>(3)</enum><text>wastewater reuse;</text>
						</paragraph><paragraph id="idC3459392695642A592014E81E1BB3B79"><enum>(4)</enum><text>increased water use
				efficiency; and</text>
						</paragraph><paragraph id="idDC1B491F1BD14FAC8D7024BD970B2B64"><enum>(5)</enum><text>development of additional
				ground and surface supplies.</text>
						</paragraph></subsection><subsection id="id62329A54E2FE4C62801D116EBB9DADFC"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Authorization of
				appropriations</header><text>There is authorized to be appropriated to the
				Secretary to carry out this section
				$500,000.</text>
					</subsection></section><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block>
