<official-title>To amend the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act to require that the Department of Defense notify the creditors of persons in military service and persons entering military service, and for other purposes.</official-title>

<section id="H30325D7AF6FB42C49D00FDDD8B406EB5" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Ease Our Soldiers’ Minds Act</short-title></quote>. </text></section> 
<section id="HCAB5DCAFC3F64620AF2D00FE328BE219"><enum>2.</enum><header>Amendment to Servicemembers Civil Relief Act</header> 
<subsection id="H59C814E25E7B467CA7AA25CF182C72CD"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Section 105 of the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (<external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/108/189">Public Law 108–189</external-xref>) is amended—</text> 
<paragraph id="HDD53E9056CA64BD7B1A1CA2EFA9BD52C"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in the heading for the section, by striking <quote><header-in-text level="section" style="OLC">of benefits</header-in-text></quote> and inserting <quote><header-in-text level="section" style="OLC">with respect to benefits</header-in-text></quote>; </text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H8AB59F3E439D4EEC8C2DB169FE1B7613"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by inserting <quote>(a) <header-in-text level="subsection" style="OLC">Notification of benefits to servicemember.—</header-in-text></quote> before <quote>The Secretary</quote>; and</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="HC86AE0B707DD40A480F46198C7860088"><enum>(3)</enum><text>by adding at the end the following:</text>

<subsection id="H50727E01BE494AB4BD7F7E008B7B1000"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Notification to creditors</header> 
<paragraph id="HA846ECEE5672441DA4E8DB25FED61AF"><enum>(1)</enum><header>Submission of information</header><text>In providing the notice under subsection (a) to a person, the Secretary concerned shall request that the person submit information relating to the creditors of such person not later than the following date, as applicable:</text> 
<subparagraph id="H44253F7932314AC3AFC77408A6F05032"><enum>(A)</enum><text>In the case of a person entering military service, within a reasonable time period but not later than 30 days after the date on which the person enters such service.</text></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="H72692B5497B94020877229D00962473"><enum>(B)</enum><text>In the case of a person in military service, within a reasonable time period but not later than 30 days after the date on which the person receives the request from the Secretary.</text></subparagraph></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H4371C2536E2646738D801C8F57842401"><enum>(2)</enum><header>Notification to creditors</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In the case of the creditors for which a person provides information under paragraph (1), the Secretary concerned shall ensure that notice of the benefits accorded by this Act to the person is provided in writing to such creditors, within a reasonable time period but not later than 30 days after the date on which the person submits the information.</text> </paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H52CE509C69B442F6A3AF9E47D65709FC"><enum>(3)</enum><header>Additional creditors</header><text>After the initial submission of information under paragraph (1) by a person, if the person submits to the Secretary concerned information on additional creditors of the person, the Secretary shall provide a notice described in paragraph (2) to such creditors.</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H6DFF345B0BF740A0831D888E70C343AC"><enum>(4)</enum><header>Notification to consumer reporting agencies</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">Promptly after the date of the enactment of the Ease Our Soldiers’ Minds Act, the Secretary of Defense shall ensure that notification of the benefits accorded by this Act is provided in writing to all consumer reporting agencies that compile and maintain files on consumers on a nationwide basis (as defined in section 603(p) of the Fair Credit Reporting Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/15/1681a">15 U.S.C. 1681a(p)</external-xref>).</text> </paragraph></subsection> <after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></subsection></section>
