<official-title>To provide the Secretary of Education with waiver authority for students who are eligible for Federal student grant assistance who are adversely affected by a major disaster.</official-title>

<section id="H00A708F0E95C4003BA2D40BCFA2D81BD" section-type="section-one" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Student Grant Hurricane and Disaster Relief Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section> 
<section id="HEC1F0124405D469894639FBDD8A1F31" section-type="subsequent-section"><enum>2.</enum><header>Waivers of student grant assistance repayment by students affected by disasters</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 484B(b)(2) of the Higher Education Act of 1965 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/20/1091b">20 U.S.C. 1091b(b)(2)</external-xref>) is amended by adding at the end the following new subparagraph:</text>

<subparagraph id="H2E843283EF284C619E003EA43CAFDAE2"><enum>(E)</enum><header>Waivers of grant assistance repayment by students affected by disasters</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">In addition to the waivers authorized by subparagraph (D), the Secretary may waive the amounts that students are required to return under this section with respect to any other grant assistance under this title if the withdrawals on which the returns are based are withdrawals by students—</text> 
<clause id="HE3A128AD6EA047EB833F00D5B5D26067"><enum>(i)</enum><text>who were residing in, employed in, or attending an institution of higher education that is located in an area in which the President has declared that a major disaster exists, in accordance with section 401 of the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/5170">42 U.S.C. 5170</external-xref>);</text></clause> 
<clause id="H0757584D970F406FBE5184D0AB30AAB9"><enum>(ii)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">whose attendance was interrupted because of the impact of the disaster on the student or the institution; and</text></clause> 
<clause id="H300AA56C609D4D2AB3EDE978212F24E5"><enum>(iii)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">whose withdrawal ended within the academic year during which the designation occurred or during the next succeeding academic year.</text></clause></subparagraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></section>
