<section id="H6E050AD418844A4D82CDCC2200289499" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Volunteer Firefighter Tax Relief Act of 2005</short-title></quote>.</text></section> 
<section id="HFC1D166C30C8462E80962747CF047071"><enum>2.</enum><header>Deduction for personal safety clothing of volunteer firefighters</header> 
<subsection id="H48AAF3603D1A4C4DAF86F9535EC66B7B"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Part VII of subchapter B of <external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/26/1">chapter 1</external-xref> of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 (relating to additional itemized deductions for individuals) is amended by redesignating section 224 as section 225 and by inserting after section 223 the following new section:</text>

<section id="H03801B3B605A4A0BAF2412FC81D6FDF8"><enum>224.</enum><header>Personal safety clothing of volunteer firefighters</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">In the case of an individual who is a volunteer with a volunteer fire department, there shall be allowed as a deduction an amount equal to the amount paid during the taxable year for personal safety clothing (including helmets and boots) designed for use, and to be used by such individual, in performing fire fighting services for such department.</text></section><after-quoted-block></after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subsection> 
<subsection id="H8CAB76EBF11A448CBB7D5039C35DD3A5"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Deduction allowed whether or not taxpayer itemizes other deductions</header><text>Subsection (a) of section 62 of such Code is amended by inserting before the last sentence thereof the following new paragraph:</text>

<subsection id="H6ABE8BB390EA4603A1362BC5F3D29936"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Clerical amendment</header><text>The table of sections for such part VII is amended by striking the last item and inserting the following new item:</text>

<subsection id="HD3138A5E89544597969DFC08F86430C5"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text>The amendments made by this section shall apply to taxable years beginning after the date of the enactment of this Act.</text></subsection></section>
