<section id="HB30387F4BFEE4EC39D5EEB542DBB79AC" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Retention of records (including images) of redeemed savings bonds</header> 
<subsection id="H5EAA9FC7F0A2403C91CC2F98FBD89FFD"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Subchapter II of <external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/31/31">chapter 31</external-xref> of title 31, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following new section:</text>

<section id="H591D61BADD63442E92102119947779B4"><enum>3131.</enum><header>Retention of records of redeemed bonds</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">The Secretary of the Treasury shall retain the records of each bond redeemed under this chapter, including the image of the front and back of each such bond, indefinitely. This information may be stored electronically.</text></section><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subsection> 
<subsection id="H1F23B8932E72496CBD2B25B97BC4C739"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Clerical amendment</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The analysis for subchapter II of <external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/31/31">chapter 31</external-xref> of title 31 of such Code is amended by adding at the end the following new item:</text>

<subsection id="H12344A65342542949C48A6F94C7F7600"><enum>(c)</enum><header> Effective date</header><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">The amendments made by this section shall apply with respect to any obligation redeemed under chapter 31, United States Code, the image of which has not been destroyed as of the date of the enactment of this Act.</text> </subsection></section>
