<section section-type="section-one" id="H2967E896A06C45D7B0BDAF7C279158E5" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>National Geologic Mapping Reauthorization Act of 2005</short-title></quote>.</text></section> 
<section id="H2BE4490F32924833B1985E0023AA3E14"><enum>2.</enum><header>Amendment references</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Except as otherwise expressly provided, whenever in this Act an amendment or repeal is expressed in terms of an amendment to, or repeal of, a section or other provision, the reference shall be considered to be made to such section or other provision of the National Geologic Mapping Act of 1992 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/43/31a">43 U.S.C. 31a et seq.</external-xref>).</text></section> 
<section id="HAA130403E220443E973617A890007928"><enum>3.</enum><header>Findings</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 2(a) (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/43/31a">43 U.S.C. 31a(a)</external-xref>) is amended as follows:</text> 
<paragraph id="H4FB1586C8DA04949A1168FC1B748B325"><enum>(1)</enum><text>By striking paragraph (1) and inserting the following:</text> 
<quoted-block id="H240B29079AF944ACBB1823E45F22F96"> 
<paragraph id="H82C5DE58BDB84E509224259E3F1948D4"><enum>(1)</enum><text>although significant progress has been made in the production of geologic maps since the establishment of the National Cooperative Geologic Mapping Program in 1992, no modern, digital, geologic map exists for approximately 75 percent of the Nation;</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="HA323D4F83B83457D8584F02EC6886E7C"><enum>(2)</enum><text>Paragraph (2) is amended—</text> 
<subparagraph id="HA80D13A14D434AEB9632873568B042B7"><enum>(A)</enum><text>in subparagraph (C) by inserting <quote>homeland and</quote> after <quote>planning for</quote>;</text></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="H3D923742745C4FC2A669DB72779550E9"><enum>(B)</enum><text>in subparagraph (E) by striking <quote>predicting</quote> and inserting <quote>identifying</quote>;</text></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="H9D590CBE41A34043A1E0C2EE9CC4FA98"><enum>(C)</enum><text>by striking <quote>and</quote> after the semicolon at the end of subparagraph (I);</text></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="HBA32E5C2CD1A4B7E9858E871EBF666F3"><enum>(D)</enum><text>by redesignating subparagraph (J) as subparagraph (K); and</text></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="H23D73B3F64664CE88EE274B4698A39E"><enum>(E)</enum><text>by inserting after subparagraph (I) the following:</text>

<paragraph id="H03BE104A8A3B4ED68009DDA6F8673056"><enum>(3)</enum><text>Paragraph (9) is amended by striking <quote>important</quote> and inserting <quote>available</quote>.</text></paragraph></section> 
<section id="HB9D81A2F8CFE4F388365ED1700ECDB97"><enum>4.</enum><header>Purpose</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 2(b) (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/43/31a">43 U.S.C. 31a(b)</external-xref>) is amended by striking <quote>protection</quote> and inserting <quote>management</quote>.</text></section> 
<section id="H543E30F408DC465C8756912FD3BA66B"><enum>5.</enum><header>Deadlines for actions by the United States geological survey</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 4(b)(1) (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/43/31c">43 U.S.C. 31c(b)(1)</external-xref>) is amended—</text> 
<paragraph id="H5917DBEC0D69417780F0759D32C1F29B"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in subparagraph (A) by striking <quote>not later than</quote> and all that follows through the semicolon and inserting <quote>not later than one year after the date of the enactment of the National Geologic Mapping Reauthorization Act of 2005;</quote>;</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="HB80C2DD83B694352BE87935C2B277C47"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in subparagraph (B) by striking <quote>not later than</quote> and all that follows through <quote>in accordance</quote> and inserting <quote>not later than one year after the date of the enactment of the National Geologic Mapping Reauthorization Act of 2005 in accordance</quote>; and</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="HE019C343884E427D9B15429200DB1B21"><enum>(3)</enum><text>in subparagraph (C) in the matter preceding clause (i) by striking <quote>not later than</quote> and all that follows through <quote>submit</quote> and inserting <quote>submit biennially</quote>.</text></paragraph></section> 
<section id="HC39B4078E3E9433F9DED79F8F625596B"><enum>6.</enum><header>Geologic mapping program objectives</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 4(c)(2) (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/43/31c">43 U.S.C. 31c(c)(2)</external-xref>) is amended—</text> 
<paragraph id="HF1DE7AC0FBCE41FD00DB000712E532E8"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by striking <quote>geophysical-map data base, geochemical-map data base, and a</quote>; and</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H005B3982FB7F41CFB3FFFBFFC86BEA"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by striking <quote>provide</quote> and inserting <quote>provides</quote>.</text></paragraph></section> 
<section id="HE9533C5C3A3C4E99BF26752427192587"><enum>7.</enum><header>Geologic mapping program components</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 4(d)(1)(B)(ii) (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/43/31c">43 U.S.C. 31c(d)(1)(B)(ii)</external-xref>) is amended—</text> 
<paragraph id="HB9CE5BEAD2C34FB0AA7440F3BCCAE55D"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by striking <quote>and</quote> after the semicolon at the end of subclause (I);</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H584AD30DAF004EDDAA26F947325FDF9D"><enum>(2)</enum><text>by striking the period at the end of subclause (II) and inserting <quote>; and</quote>; and</text></paragraph>

<paragraph id="H5BDB247A98B94714A12EF4295E812CFA"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in paragraph (2)—</text> 
<subparagraph id="H6A20F64EE65C459F8BD53723E6D58711"><enum>(A)</enum><text>by striking <quote>Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency or a designee</quote> and inserting <quote>Secretary of the Interior or a designee from a land management agency of the Department of the Interior</quote>;</text></subparagraph>

<section id="H4E0BEFAAFD2040629F46FE2B293B59B5"><enum>9.</enum><header>Functions of national geologic map database</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 7(a) (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/43/31f">43 U.S.C. 31f(a)</external-xref>) is amended—</text> 
<paragraph id="H619D14C4800E4C5F87825F1505C07E8B"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in paragraph (1) by striking <quote>geologic map</quote> and inserting <quote>geologic-map</quote>; and</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H38D41654325B48AF9EDEBE0030B5B59"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in paragraph (2)—</text> 
<subparagraph id="H41204F3678A149EB9C4CA88CADB59D68"><enum>(A)</enum><text>in the matter preceding subparagraph (A) by inserting <quote>information on how to obtain</quote> after <quote>that includes</quote>; and</text></subparagraph>

<section id="H5BC5EB5FC25B45F6BDBF74C120D75D65"><enum>10.</enum><header>Biennial report</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 8 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/43/31g">43 U.S.C. 31g</external-xref>) is amended by striking <quote>Not later</quote> and all that follows through <quote>biennially</quote> and inserting <quote>Not later than 3 years after the date of the enactment of the National Geologic Mapping Reauthorization Act of 2005 and biennially</quote>.</text></section> 
<section id="HA69143E1EA224818B1AEEBC40579C1E"><enum>11.</enum><header>Authorization of appropriations; allocation</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 9 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/43/31h">43 U.S.C. 31h</external-xref>) is amended—</text> 
<paragraph id="HF57E6EBCDFEC4D05BAAA7D5454C45454"><enum>(1)</enum><text>by striking subsection (a) and inserting the following:</text>
