<official-title>To amend title XVIII of the Social Security Act to extend coverage of orthopedic shoes under part B of the Medicare Program to individuals without diabetes who medically require them.</official-title>

<section id="H2990070E4AE34FB1BDE565AFD66699AB" section-type="section-one" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>1.</enum><header>Extending medicare coverage of orthopedic shoes to non-diabetic individuals</header> 
<subsection id="H915D20E28D9F4C53A26C3E76DF4C00A"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Section 1861(s)(12) of the Social Security Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/1395x">42 U.S.C. 1395x(s)(12)</external-xref>) is amended—</text> 
<paragraph id="H20E714BA6BDD4A36B64F00C6173CBB98"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in the matter before subparagraph (A)—</text> 
<subparagraph id="HDDB3F7103B5946079150AEAAEB8417B"><enum>(A)</enum><text>by striking <quote>subject to section 4072(e) of the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1987,</quote>; and</text></subparagraph> 
<subparagraph id="H6DF8923D7CFD4B7B8792741C44A4B06"><enum>(B)</enum><text>by inserting <quote>or for an individual with another condition that a physician certifies as requiring such shoes</quote> after <quote>for an individual with diabetes</quote>; and</text></subparagraph></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H9F49FC9FBF0F446B8D8422324198EE00"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in subparagraph (A), by striking <quote>diabetic condition</quote> and inserting <quote>diabetic or other condition</quote> each place it appears.</text></paragraph></subsection> 
<subsection id="HE222897237D54279B9F84EACE4835BA"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Conforming amendment</header><text>Section 1834(j)(5)(F)(iii) of such Act (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/1395m">42 U.S.C. 1395m(j)(5)(F)(iii)</external-xref>) is amended to read as follows:</text>

<subsection id="H198A7CF0F5BD4112988E53C073960032"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Effective date</header><text>The amendments made by this section shall apply to shoes furnished on or after January 1, 2006.</text></subsection></section>
