<official-title>To amend title 5, United States Code, to extend the veterans’ preference provisions of such title to individuals who served on active duty in the armed forces for a period of more than 180 consecutive days any part of which occurred after September 11, 2001, and before January 1, 2006, and separated from the armed forces under honorable conditions.</official-title>

<section id="HDBAC679B8BBF40EF93391B00D751BDEF" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Veterans’ preference</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline"><external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/5/2108">Section 2108(1)</external-xref> of title 5, United States Code, is amended—</text> 
<paragraph id="H13D0649764494C1B8C77DEC9B102501F"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in subparagraph (B), by striking <quote>or</quote> at the end;</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H2E663F65F9B2451D9991177CB1179690"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in subparagraph (C), by adding <quote>or</quote> after the semicolon; and</text></paragraph> 
<paragraph id="H3BE633226AF04FC7B30011F6117EAC3F"><enum>(3)</enum><text>by inserting after subparagraph (C) the following:</text>

<subparagraph id="HFB9668DA0502405B8D09F4015D004192"><enum>(D)</enum><text display-inline="yes-display-inline">served on active duty as defined by <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/38/101">section 101(21)</external-xref> of title 38 at any time in the armed forces for a period of more than 180 consecutive days any part of which occurred after September 11, 2001, and before January 1, 2006;</text></subparagraph><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block> </paragraph></section>
