<section id="HB5D98486402646BCA8115853B99F2662" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Theft prevention standards</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline"><external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/49/33103">Section 33103</external-xref> of title 49, United States Code, is amended by adding at the end the following:</text>

<subsection id="HB207469321E744E8BEFCBF30B11D6149"><enum>(g)</enum><header>Verification of vehicle ownership for replacement keys</header><text>Not later than 180 days after the date of enactment of this subsection, the Secretary of Transportation shall prescribe a vehicle theft standard requiring automobile dealerships to verify ownership of a vehicle, including vehicle registration and driver’s license, before providing a spare or replacement key for such vehicle. Notwithstanding <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/49/33115">section 33115(a)</external-xref> of this title, a violation of a regulation prescribed under this subsection shall result in a fine of $1,000 per violation.</text></subsection><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block> </section>
