<section section-type="section-one" id="H936B2FC748764BBCB14905E01E000FB" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>1.</enum><header>Northern Border Coordinator</header>
<subsection id="H93F359CBC9E34CD6AFF41F05863E78E8"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Title IV of the Homeland Security Act of 2002 (<external-xref legal-doc="public-law" parsable-cite="pl/107/296">Public Law 107–296</external-xref>) is amended—</text>
<paragraph id="H5F3968DCEADD4CC183D1D4F95CAE47F7"><enum>(1)</enum><text>in section 402, by redesignating paragraph (8) as paragraph (9) and by inserting after paragraph (7) the following:</text>

<paragraph id="H98D6D4A83937495090C426C037C1354"><enum>(8)</enum><text>Increasing the security of the border between the United States and Canada and the ports of entry located along that border, and improving the coordination among the agencies responsible for maintaining that security.</text></paragraph><after-quoted-block>; and</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph>
<paragraph id="H298E3FBD9A7446C782D7D536000B4EF"><enum>(2)</enum><text>in subtitle C, by adding at the end the following:</text>

<section id="HB2DFE0D1E87E49AD9EC1A6D994901F94"><enum>431.</enum><header>Northern Border Coordinator</header>
<subsection id="HBE82A512B6AA42429B5B4DAA787F13DE"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text>There shall be within the Directorate of Border and Transportation Security the position of Northern Border Coordinator, who shall be appointed by the Secretary and who shall report directly to the Under Secretary for Border and Transportation Security.</text></subsection>
<subsection id="HED6C090A78E045EF91958D2634AB28D0"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Responsibilities</header><text>The Northern Border Coordinator shall be responsible for—</text>
<paragraph id="HDC8CB49A6897477CBDB91640E8D2E388"><enum>(1)</enum><text>increasing the security of the border, including ports of entry, between the United States and Canada;</text></paragraph>
<paragraph id="HD78E5026197346CEAC5DA1FCE3186F2C"><enum>(2)</enum><text>improving the coordination among the agencies responsible for the security described under paragraph (1);</text></paragraph>
<paragraph id="HBF340303700040DC9000AC05B32D079"><enum>(3)</enum><text>serving as the primary liaison with State and local governments and law enforcement agencies regarding security along the border between the United States and Canada; and</text></paragraph>
<paragraph id="H8CC3CE08795E44BEBC68000080BE6187"><enum>(4)</enum><text>serving as a liaison with the Canadian government on border security.</text></paragraph></subsection></section><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></paragraph></subsection>
<subsection id="H3FC20303DC1C400D8F2F71A46305501C"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Clerical amendment</header><text>Section 1(b) of such Act is amended in the table of contents by inserting after the item relating to section 430 the following:</text>
