<section id="HE3A07F92F66046B0BD876398A6DCC109" section-type="section-one"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>GI Bill Flexibility Act</short-title></quote>.</text></section> 
<section id="HB8EE96B0F7724E85BB99DCBE2342AD6" section-type="subsequent-section" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>2.</enum><header>Use of educational assistance under the Montgomery GI Bill to pay federal student loans</header> 
<subsection id="H495FA9960E3341428C9BE3107274BBB4"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Subchapter II of <external-xref legal-doc="usc-chapter" parsable-cite="usc-chapter/38/30">chapter 30</external-xref> of title 38, United States Code, is amended by inserting after <external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/38/3020">section 3020</external-xref> the following new section:</text>

<section id="HDF1C365C285843F3B4A8D00038065848"><enum>3020A. </enum><header>Use of educational assistance benefits for the repayment of Federal student loans</header> 
<subsection id="HC1FF2BBE6DFD4DB08F9CCD5884554F79"><enum>(a)</enum><header>In general</header><text>Notwithstanding any other provision of this chapter, upon completion of an approved course of education, an individual entitled to educational assistance under this subchapter may apply amounts of educational assistance otherwise available to the individual under section 3015 of this title to repay some or all of any Federal student loan balance owed by the individual.</text></subsection> 
<subsection id="HD79145F697A5452EBBFB00FD18442691"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Payment methodology</header><text>The Secretary shall make payments in such form (whether lump-sum or monthly payments) and in such amounts as the individual may elect for the repayment of a Federal student loan of such an individual.</text></subsection> 
<subsection id="H51677CE237DD4BABA1C24378E9091EA8"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Limitation on payments</header><text>In no event shall payment of educational assistance under this section exceed the amount of the individual’s available entitlement under this chapter.</text></subsection> 
<subsection id="HFB1B2E30B9264A0FB083044512CA3294"><enum>(d)</enum><header>Arrangements to make payments</header><text>The Secretary shall enter into such arrangements, and shall prescribe such regulations, as may be necessary to carry out this section.</text></subsection> 
<subsection id="HD2497D8066E44C479DF531527C80E6FC"><enum>(e)</enum><header>Federal student loan defined</header><text>In this section, the term <quote>Federal student loan</quote> means any loan made under title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/20/1070">20 U.S.C. 1070 et seq.</external-xref>). </text></subsection></section><after-quoted-block>.</after-quoted-block></quoted-block></subsection> 
<subsection id="H01FB6C8D9D55416A8D923B00B158F897"><enum>(b)</enum><header>Clerical amendment</header><text>The table of sections of subchapter II of chapter 30 of such title is amended by inserting after the item relating to section 3020 the following new item:</text>

<subsection id="H37D7AACB67D849CF0032FACF628960C9"><enum>(c)</enum><header>Effective Date</header><text>The amendments made by this section shall apply to educational assistance paid for months beginning on or after the date of the enactment of this Act.</text></subsection></section>
