<official-title>To amend the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 to expand the definition of firefighter to include apprentices and trainees, regardless of age or duty limitations.</official-title>

<section id="HA97E01E45C6348A4B32B4084C894E1CF" section-type="section-one" display-inline="no-display-inline"><enum>1.</enum><header>Short title</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">This Act may be cited as the <quote><short-title>Christopher Kangas Fallen Firefighter Apprentice Act</short-title></quote>. </text></section> 
<section id="H8F3DB851B09248ED00B8FA1F14B15508"><enum>2.</enum><header>Expansion of definition of firefighter to include apprentices and trainees</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">Section 1204(4) of the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 (<external-xref legal-doc="usc" parsable-cite="usc/42/3796b">42 U.S.C. 3796b(4)</external-xref>) is amended by inserting <quote>, regardless of age, status as an apprentice or trainee, or duty restrictions imposed because of age or status as an apprentice or trainee,</quote> after <quote>fire department</quote>.</text></section> 
<section id="H9B795C95C3EF4736B7F2F9C11C764F6F"><enum>3.</enum><header>Effective date</header><text display-inline="no-display-inline">The amendment made by this Act shall apply with respect to deaths and injuries which occur on or after May 4, 2002. </text></section>
